Mangalore, February 14: “We have lost faith in humanity, we do not know whom to trust, because even after waiting for so long, we have not got justice,” a nun at the Adoration Monastery told the former Judge of the Delhi High Court Rajinder Sachar on Sunday.

Mr. Sachar visited the Adoration Monastery, which was one of the Christian religious institutions attacked in September 2008 and spoke to nuns (belonging to a cloistered convent) of the monastery from across a barrier. The nun said that in two years, several politicians had visited them, but they (the nuns) were yet to get justice.

A former president of People's Union for Civil Liberties, Mr. Sachar told them that “there needs to be hope”. In the fight for human rights one might not always win, but the fight could not be given up, he said. Mr. Sachar visited the site where the cross was broken by the attackers (now replaced with a new one), and the original cross which had been preserved for visitors.

During a meeting of the PUCL on Friday evening, Mr. Sachar said the State unit of the PUCL should legally challenge the report in the Karnataka High Court. Karnataka State President of the PUCL P.B. D'Sa told The Hindu that this needed to be discussed . “At the moment, the (high) court looks like the only remedy (to challenge the Justice B.K. Somasekhara Commission report),” he said. PUCL would consider filing a petition with the High Court against the report of the commission, and place before it the report prepared by Justice M.F. Saldanha.

Amidst heightened border tensions between Indian and China, senior BJP leader and Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan's two year old tweet comparing his party with Communist Party of China started going viral.

The tweet, dated 26 June, 2016 reads: "Communist Party of China & BJP have done numerous works in social field. This way, there is tremendous similarities between the two parties." (sic)

Twitterati dug up this tweet after over 20 Indian Army personnel, including a colonel, were killed in a clash with Chinese troops in the Galwan Valley in eastern Ladakh earlier this week.

Soon after Chouhan's tweet went viral, netizens took to the micro-blogging site and slammed BJP. One user said, "Interesting comment by Hindutva ITSELF to recognise how similar they are with China. No doubt. Both believe in Dragon Throne .... and brutal absolute control." Another user said, "No wonder the BJP & China both agree that PLA never crossed into Indian territory."

However, the police are yet to make arrests in the case.

Investigation in the case is underway and more details in this regard are awaited.

Recently, Noida Sub-Divisional Magistrate with a team from the Health department busted a fake sanitiser and mask factory.

Notably, the Central government recently had brought masks and hand sanitisers under the Essential Commodities Act up to June 30 as the novel coronavirus pandemic led to shortages and black marketing of these items.

Any person found guilty under the Act may be punished with imprisonment up to seven years or fine or both and can be detained for a maximum of six months.
