Special pooja at Thumbay dam offered

Mangalore, February 14: Krishna J Palemar, District in-charge Minister offered a special pooja for Thumbay vented dam through “Bagina” (thanksgiving) tradition on Monday at Thumbay near here.

Speaking to media persons later, he said the new vented dam which will be completed within a year, could store 14.70 Million Cubic Meters (MCM) of water against the 4.5 MCM capacity of the existing one.

While the storage at the existing dam lasted for 20 days at zero-inflow, the water stored in the reservoir after the construction of the new dam would be sufficient to serve for 90 days with zero-inflow, he said.

The villages such as Haleyangady, Moodushedde, Mala, Saripalla, Mulky, Neerumarga, Thellar and the like will get sufficient water from the new vented dam, he added.

He said the new dam is of seven metres height as against four metres of the present dam.

Mayor Rajani Dugganna, MCC Commissioner Dr KN Vijaya Prakash, Shantha, Ranganath K and other corporators were present.

Bengaluru, Jul 4: Karnataka Congress leader Dinesh Gundu Rao said on Saturday that he and his family would get tested for COVID-19 after one of his security persons tested positive for the infection.

Rao's family will also be in-home quarantine for the stipulated time.

"One of my police security person has tested positive for COVID yesterday. My family members and I are getting tested now and will be in-home quarantine for the stipulated time period. None of us are showing any symptoms," he said.

The total number of cases in Karnataka stands at 19,710. Out of them, 8,805 have recovered and 293 patients have lost their lives, according to the Union Health Ministry.

Across the country, the total number of cases stands at 6,48,315. As many as 3,94,227 patients have recovered so far and 18,655 have lost their lives due to the virus.

Bengaluru, Apr 11: Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) president D K Shivakumar on Saturday lodged a complaint with Director General and Inspector General of Police Praveen Sood seeking action against four BJP leaders for their alleged communal statements.

In his petition, Mr Shivakumar cited remarks made by BJP MP Shobha Karandlaje, former union minister Anant kumar Hegde, MP Renukacharya and MLA Basanagouda Patil Yatnal were ''vituperative statements'' which were offences under Section 153A of the IPC.

The Congress leader alleged that the four leaders ''joined in a criminal conspiracy to create enmity between Hindus and the minority community.''

Mangaluru, Jun 15: The case of two elderly Dubai returnees who are being treated for Covid-19 at the Wenlock Covid-19 Hospital has left doctors perplexed.

The two aged 76 and 81 men had arrived from Dubai on May 18 and 12 respectively and are at the hospital since one month. 

To everyone's surprise, six of their tests have come out positive though they have not shown any symptoms of SARS-CoV-2.
