Yenepoya University inks MoU with German Varsity

Mangalore, February 15: The Johannes Gutenburg University, Germany and Yenepoya University, Mangalore, signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on Tuesday, February 15, at Yenepoya Medical College.

Johannes Gutenburg University is one of the oldest German Universities, named after the famous fifteenth-century printer, who revolutionaized printing with movable types.

The signatories to the agreement were the Dean of Medical Faculty at Yenepoya University, Dr.Ghulam Jeelani Qadiri and the Dean of Medical Faculty at Johannes Gutenberg University, Prof.Dr.Reinhard Urban. Dr.Urban's colleague Dr.Norbert Paul is the Chief Resouce Person for the International Indo-German CME on Clinical Ethics Consultation.

The MOU encompasses scientific co-operation in the furtherance of research and academics in the specialised area of clinical ethics consultation and bioethics in general. Research is to be in the area of transcultural ethics. The coordination for the MOU on the Indian side is Dr.Vina Vaswani. Dr.Vaswani is the Professor & Head, Department of Forensic Medicine & Toxicology in Yenepoya Medical College. Dr.Vaswani has recently completed her mastersin Bioethics from the prestigious Erasmus Mundus program. The coordinator from the German University is Dr.Norbert Paul, Director, Department of History, Philosophy and Ethics in Medicine.

Mangaluru: Continuing the relief work they started in the wake of the Corona Lockdown, ‘Team B-Human’ a local social organization is reaching out to the migrant workers who are stuck here in the region, unable to return to the homes.

Team of volunteers of the organization reached out to the migrant workers and distributed essential items including clothes and footwear of men, women, and kids.

Earlier, the organization had reached out to thousands of migrant workers and needy families and had helped them with food kits, Ramadan Kits along with medical assistance to many.

Several migrant workers recently moved back to their respective states, villages with their families, while others, unable to move back for various reasons are stuck here facing several difficulties and plights. The relief work by ‘Team B Human’ has helped several families of migrant workers in these distressing times.

Bengaluru, Jan 12: Janata Dal (Secular) chief and former prime minister H D Deve Gowda on Sunday refuted reports of him contesting in the Rajya Sabha elections and added that he is more concerned about strengthening his party in Karnataka.

"I am not interested in going to Rajya Sabha. My concern is to build and strengthen the party in the region to the best of my ability. I had declared earlier that I will not contest elections anymore," Deve Gowda told ANI here.

"My party MP D Kupendra Reddy is there in the Rajya Sabha as of now and further decisions will be taken by the party. In March 2019, towards the end of the 16th Lok Sabha I had declared that I will not contest any more elections," Deve Gowda added.

Four Rajya Sabha seats in Karnataka are about to fall vacant in June this year as two of Congress, one of BJP and JD(S) MPs retire.

Mangaluru, Jan 20: A teenage girl drowned after a boat in which she was traveling in capsized in the river Netravati at Uliya Hoige, Ullal, police said on Monday.

Meanwhile, four other girls who were also traveling on the same boat were rescued by the locals, the police added. The mishap happened on Sunday.

The deceased has been identified as 18-year-old Renita, a resident of Miyapadavu.
