Rail Roko seeks extension of Bangalore-Kannur train to Karwar

Udupi, February 15: Politicians and activists, under the banner of Railway Yathri Sangha, Udupi, on Tuesday held a Rail Roko demanding the extension of Bangalore-Kannur train till Karwar.


When the Poorna Express reached the Udupi Railway Station at Indrali, at 9.05 am, agitators boarded Railway engine, shouted slogans against the Union government and Railway Minister from the state KH Muniyappa and disrupted the movement of the train.


Udupi MLA K Raghupathi Bhat, Kaup MLA Lalaji R Mendon, former MLA UR Sabhapathi, Udupi Zilla Panchayath President Katapady Shankar Poojary, District JD(S) President Deviprasad Shetty, President of Railway Yathri Sangha RL Dias, Vice President Venkatesh Kini, Udupi CMC Vice President Bharathi Chandrashekhar, Chairman of the Dakshina Kannada Co-operative Fish Marketing Federation Yashpal Suvarna and others participated in the Rail Roko. Police team headed by Circle Inspector of Police Girish arrested the agitators and released on self-bond.


Members of the Udupi District Post and Telecommunication Pensioners' Association also participated in the rail roko.


MLA Raghupathi Bhat demanded the central government to announce the extension of Bangalore-Kannur train to Karwar. `If they fail to announce the extension, we will extend the Rail Roko throughout the district'', Bhat threatened.


Yathri Sangha President RL Dias said that as per the information obtained under the RTI, the Bangalore-Kannur train had been incurring a loss of Rs 2 lakhs per day and that could be overcome by extending the train services till Karwar.

Bengaluru, Jan 24: After the visit of fact finding committee members to the spot, the Christian community here decided to submit a report to the state government urging to install a 114-ft. statue of Jesus Christ at Kapala Betta in Kanakapura taluk of Ramanagaram district, Congress MLC Ivan D’souza said here on Thursday.

While talking to media, Mr D’souza said the committee would submit the report to Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa and Revenue Minster R. Ashok and urge the government to construct the statue at the earliest.

The RSS and other BJP outfits have strongly opposed the installation, following which the government ordered suspension of the work. A few days ago, Kalladka Prabhakar, RSS ideologue, took out a rally in Kanakapura opposing the installation.

Bengaluru, May 14: Michael Madhu was one of the popular actors in Sandalwood. He was widely known for portraying comedy roles. The news of his demise has come as a shock to all the members in the Kannada film industry and also his fans. Michael Madhu died on May 13 after suffering from a heart attack. As per a report in Zoom, the actor was rushed to the KIMS Hospital in Bengaluru after he suddenly collapsed at his home.

Michael Madhu, in his career spanning of almost two decades, has acted in more than 300 films. Some of his notable works include Bhajarangi, Shhh! and Ashwamedha. Besides being an impeccable actor, especially his perfect comic timings, Michael was also passionate about dancing and was huge fan of Michael Jackson. This was one of the major reasons why he added Michael to his name. He had entered the film industry with an aim to become a popular choreographer, but destiny had something else in store for him. Michael Madhu is survived by his wife and two daughters.

Fans of Michael Madhu have been sharing condolences on social media ever since the news of his death hit the internet. As per a report in media, the actor’s last rites will take place today.

Mangaluru, Jun 15: A father and his four-year-old son were killed when their motorcycle was hit by a lorry from behind at Bakampady junction on the outskirts of the city.

The Police said the deceased has been identified as Abdul Bhasheer, a resident of Krishnapura and his son Shayan. 

On Sunday evening, Bahseer was going from Mangaluru to Krishnapura by the motorcycle along with wife and son when a speeding lorry "dashed into the motorcycle from behind and knocked them down''.

The four-year-old son died on the spot while Basher and his wife were rushed to the hospital. However, the husband succumbed to injuries at the hospital on Monday. Local police registered a case in this connection.
