Vizag port bags team championship in All India Lawn Tennis Tournament

Mangalore, February 23: Vishakapatnam Port Trust won the team championship in the 27th All India Major Port Lawn Tennis Tournament that concluded on Wednesday, February 23, at New Mangalore Port Trust.


Vizag won beat Chennai Port by 3-1. Chennai Port Trust bagged the runners up title and NMPT & Kandla shared the 3rd position. P M Sukumar of NMPT bagged silver in the Veteran Singles and bronze in Veteran Doubles (PM Sukumar & P C Chacko). The details are as below:

Singles:


1. Abhishek of Vizag won against K Prabhakaran of Chennai Port(9-0)
2. G Chelliah of Chennai Port won against K. Bujji of Vizag(9-4)

Doubles:


Bujji & Abhishek of Vizag won against G Chellaiah & Shri K. Prabhakaran of Chennai Port (9-3).

Reverse Singles:


Prabhakaran of Chennai Port Trust conceded the match to K. Bujji of Vizag

Veteran Singles


P Kishore of Vizag won against P.M. Sukumar of NMPT (9-1)
Veteran doubles


G Chelliah & Shri K. Prabhakaran of Chennai Port worn against Shri Shravan G. Thakur and Shri Sunil Gosatwar of JNPT(9-2)

Prize distribution was made by Smt Maheshwari Tamilvanan, President of NMP Mahila Samaj. The function was presided over by Ivan A. Monterio, Chairman I/C NMPT. C Harichandran, Secy, NMPT and President of NMP Sports Council welcomed the gathering and AV Harinath, Superintending Engineer and General Secretary of NMP Sports Council proposed vote of thanks.

Hubballi, May 14: South Western Railway (SWR) has so far ferried about 54,000 passengers, including migrant workers, students and stranded people to 11 states to reach their home towns by Shramik Special trains.

So far 40 Shramik Specials were run one each from Kabakaputtur in Mysuru and Hubballi and remaining 38 from Chikkabanavara/Malur from Bengaluru area. About 54,000 passengers were ferried to different parts of the country. Maximum Shramik Specials trains train services were run to Lucknow (9) and Danapur (7).

Shramik Specials were run to Bihar (Bakora, Danapur, Baruni, Darbhanga), West Bengal (Purila, Bankura, New Jalpaiguri), Jharkhand (Hatia, Barkakana), Rajasthan (Jaipur, Udaipur), Uttar Pradesh (Lucknow, Gorakhpur), Orissa (Bhubaneswar), Madhya Pradesh (Gwalior), Uttarakhand (Haridwar), Himachal Pradesh (Una), Tripura (Agartala) and Jammu and Kashmir (Udhampur).

SWR is transporting passengers to their destination as per the demand of the State Government with proper protocol and the receiving State Government is ready to accept them.

Mangaluru, Feb 26: Customs officials at Mangalore International Airport on Wednesday arrested a man for trying to smuggle gold worth over Rs 26 lakh by concealing it in his rectum.

The accused has been identified as Moideen Arzan, a resident of Uppala, Kasaragod.

According to police, he arrived from Dubai by an Air India flight and was attempting to smuggle the gold which he had converted in the form of paste and concealed in rubber capsules inside his rectum.

Bengaluru, Jun 28: Novel coronavirus has claimed another police officer's life here, official sources said on Sunday.

According to official sources, the deceased police officer attached to station in Whitefield division had collapsed in his home on Saturday.

The 57-year-old Police officer, working as an Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) who was diagnosed with COVID-19 infection, also reportedly suffered from breathing related problems, the sources said.
