Aided-college teachers yet to get salary for two months

Mangalore, February 26: Teachers drawing University Grants Commission (UGC) pay scale in aided-degree colleges under Mangalore University are worried as they are yet to get their salary for the past two months.

With just three days left for February to end, 600 teachers are waiting for their salary for December and January, president of the Association of Mangalore University College Teachers (AMUCT) Ummappa Poojary P. told The Hindu.

Credited

Mr. Poojary said that though the officials of the Department of Collegiate Education maintained that the Government had credited the salary grant with the district treasury, teachers were yet to get it.

H.R. Natraj Urs, Joint Director, Department of Collegiate Education, Mangalore Region, confirmed that the grant had been credited with the district treasury.

Hope

Mr. Poojary hoped that teachers will get their salary in a day or two.

It is not for the first time that the Government has delayed the salary of teachers from aided colleges.

Earlier, they got their salary for October and November last together in December.

UGC pay

Mr. Poojary said that the Government had implemented the revised University Grants Commission (UGC) pay scale to college teachers with effect from June 2010. Thereafter, teachers got their salary as usual for the first three months.

Trouble

Then the trouble started. This has been attributed to exhaustion of budget allocation towards salary for 2010-11 made on the basis of old pay scales.

The State Government should have made an additional allocation on the basis of the revised pay scale at once till March 2011, Mr. Poojary said.

It is making the additional budgetary allocation part by part.

It has resulted in the delay.

Delay

He said that though the Association of Mangalore University College Teachers had appealed to the State Government to pay the salary by fifth of every month, the delay continued to affect many teachers.

Mr. Poojary said that the State Government had issued on order implementing the revised pay scale with effect from December 24, 2009.

But in reality, the Government paid the revised salary with effect from June 2010. The State Government had not paid the difference amount (salary arrears) of the revised pay scale for more than five months, from December 24, 2009 to May 31, 2010.

Bengaluru, May 10: Former Karnataka Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy on Sunday accused the state government of not preparing proper guidelines to bring back people who are stranded near the Karnataka-Maharashtra border areas.

"No proper guidelines have been given to officials to bring back people who are stranded near the Karnataka-Maharashtra border. From the last 45 days, many of these people have not got any relief nor are there any proper directions or guidelines from the state government," alleged Kumaraswamy.

He also accused the state government of cheating the people of Karnataka.

"Karnataka government is cheating people the same way it cheated with the flood compensation. The state government had announced lakhs of rupees as compensation to those who lost houses in the flood last year. But nobody has got the records or details as to how many people got benefited from it," he added.
Fifty-three more COVID-19 cases were reported in Karnataka on Sunday, the state government said.

The total number of cases in the state is at 847, including 405 discharged and 31 deaths so far, the bulletin said.

Kasaragod, Apr 1: Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Tuesday announced a special action plan for Kasargod district where more people testing positive to the Coronovirous.

"The northern most district of the State has become the hot bed of Coronavirus infection with the maximum number of positive cases confirmed in Kerala," the Chief Minister told a press conference at the Government Secretariat.

“A special action plan will be implemented in Kasargod. Currently, Kasargod district has the maximum number of positive cases and also the highest number of people under hospital observation. Data from the panchayats in the district will be used to test people with symptoms and also to identify people in contact with them," he said.

Bengaluru, Jul 29: A day after Congress staged a nationwide 'Save Democracy' protest, Janata Dal (Secular) leader HD Kumaraswamy slammed Congress for "dividing" the political parties and "buying MLAs" and questioned their "democratic behaviour" to lure Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) MLAs who supported them.

Kumaraswamy, in a media statement, said, "Is it a democratic behaviour to lure MLAs of other parties through political shenanigans and later merging with them?"

"Congress is an expert in dividing political parties and purchase of MLAs," said Kumaraswamy adding, "If you are dividing the like-minded party MLAs through deceit, who would support you?"

He alleged that the term "horse trade" in politics came to be used because of Congress.

Congress had tied to divide the Janata Dal (Secular) in 2004. To this, he added, "To avoid the party being hijacked by the Congress, I had to oust the Congress-JD(S) coalition government through a political coup."

Kumaraswamy further accused, "Haven't the Congress who is making a big noise about the purchase of MLAs divided the JD(S) in the past? Is it not a fact that for the sake of one Rajya Sabha seat, the Congress government in Karnataka purchased eight JD(S) MLAs?"

Both -- Congress and BJP -- are "criminals" in purchase matter, he added.

Rajasthan Congress is in turmoil after simmering differences between Sachin Pilot and Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot came out in the open. Pilot was removed as the Deputy Chief Minister and the state unit chief of Congress.

The Congress has accused the BJP of indulging in horse-trading to bring down the Gehlot government. The BJP has rejected the allegations.
