State govt must take initiative in completing Centre's schemes for DK'

Mangalore, March 5: The state government must take initiative in completing various schemes proposed for the development of the twin districts of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi by the central government, said P V Mohan, Member, All India Congress Committee (AICC).

Addressing media persons at the district Congress office in Mangalore on Saturday, March 5, Mohan said that a delegation of Daksina Kannada Youth Congress leaders had been to Delhi. Road transport facility, Railway, and Airport development issues were discussed with respective Union Ministers, he said.

He said that the delegation brought to the notice of the top brass, the need for building of NIFT College in Udupi district, extension of old port, need for a modern fishing port in Kulai, besides other issues. However, he said the state government was yet to communicate with the central government with regard to several of those issues.

Taking a dig at Nalin Kumar Kateel, Mohan said that the MP should concentrate on Dakshina Kannada's railway needs rather than vouching for Karwar. “It is a shame that there is no train for Mangalore while Kannur has two trains. We want better inter-connectivity with trains such as Mangalore to Chitradurga, Mangalore to Bangalore and the like”, he said, adding that Mangalore is the “best city after Bangalore” but is lacking sufficient railway facilities.
