JIH family meet held

Mangalore, March 6: Around one thousand members belonging to over two hundred Muslim families from across Mangalore taluk got together at a pleasant area in Sankolige near Beeri on the outskirts of the city on Sunday.

The weekend family get together was organised by the Mangalore Taluk unit of Jama'ath-e-Islami Hind.

Men, women and children converged at the venue at around 10 am and enjoyed the whole day participating in various games and competitions and interacting with each other apart from prayers and speeches, before dispersing at around 5:30 pm.

A game of Kabbaddi, poets meet and quiz were organised separately for men, women and children.

Muhammed Kunhi, JIH DK Youth Wing President, spoke on the personality development. KM Shareef delivered valedictory speech.

Bengaluru, Jun 16: Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa on Tuesday instructed that despite financial constraints don't cut scholarships of the students belonging to Backward Class (BC) across the state.

Speaking at a review meeting of the Social Welfare Department at his home office 'Krishna' here, he said the department has achieved 97 per cent in implementation of the government programmes.

He said that among the BC students who were given training for the competitive examinations, two selected for IAS, two IPS, 13 IRS and another 268 students have been selected for various competitions and selected for the jobs.

Mangaluru, Jun 11: City police on Thursday filed a 700-page chargesheet in connection with the arrest of Aditya Rao, 36, accused of planting an IED at Mangaluru International Airport on January 20.

The chargesheet said the bag placed near MIA entrance had a real bomb, as per the FSL report. The IED in the tin box was made of sulphur, ammonium nitrate, potassium chlorate and charcoal.

Rao, an engineer, who learnt bomb-making through online videos, had also placed a timer along with it and sharp objects such as nails and metals. However, he had not fixed wires to trigger a blast. “His intention was not to cause a blast but only to create a scare,” said sources.

The bomb was made in less than two weeks. However, it had taken Rao several days to procure raw materials. Police had completed the chargesheet process in April.

Shivamogga, Aug 9: Minister of State for Railways Suresh Angadi on Saturday virtually inaugurated Malgudi Museum at Arasalu in Karantaka's Shivamogga.

The old station building at Arasalu has been converted into museum.
BJP MP from Shivamogga BY Raghavendra said that the old station building at Arasalu has been renovated keeping with 'Malgudi' theme in mind.

"It is a tribute to the makers of the popular television serial 'Malgudi Days' as the station features predominantly in the episodes which broadcast on Doordarshan in the 1980s," he said.

The museum has been designed by a famous artist John Devraj, who was the part of the serial Malgudi Days. The Mysore Divisional Railway funded the museum.

"The approach road and station area wear a new transformed look. The innovative idea of having a tea-shop in a narrow gauge coach at Arasalu station adds charm to the green surroundings," the MP said.

"Popular and internationally acclaimed serial Malgudi Days was shot here in Arasalu. The SWR Mysore division manager Aparna Garg helped to transform the station to fictional village Malgudi," he added.

The museum is about 30 km from Shivamogga city. It has steam engines and bogies besides collections of photographs hanging on the wall taken during the time of shooting for Malgudi Days.
