Canara Club wins Cosmo Club Cricket Tourney

Mangalore, March 7: Canara Club defeated Eden Club in the final of the Cosmo Club Cricket Tournament to lift the trophy of the inter-club competition at St Aloysius College grounds in Mangalore.

The tournament was held under the banner of Cosmopolitan Club, Mangalore.


Eden Club had to be content with the runners up trophy. Rais of Eden Club was adjudged the best bowler of the tournament while Anand of Cosmo Club won the best batsman award.

Chief Secretary of the Cosmopolitan Club Ratnakar Kamath gave away the prizes to the winners. Club's Sports Secretary Rajgopal Rai proposed the vote of thanks.

Earlier, Vice President of the Club Surendra Shetty tossed the coin to begin proceedings of the match. Chief Secretary of the Cosmopolitan Club Ratnakar Kamath, Sports Secretary Rajgopal Rai, office bearers Ravindra Shetty, Yogish, Harish Gatty were also present.

Bengaluru, Aug 1: The Karnataka government on Friday brought in Additional Director General of Police (Intelligence) Kamal Pant as the Bengaluru police Commissioner in a reshuffle of police personnel.

Pant comes in as the city police Commissioner in place of Bhaskar Rao.

According to a government order, Rao will handle internal security as ADGP, a post which was lying vacant due to the promotion of P S Sandhu.

Along with the two officials, ADGP B Dayananda who was in charge of the Criminal Investigation Department and Economic Offences, has been made the new intelligence chief.

Mangaluru Mar 30: The Mangaluru South Police has registered a criminal case against a man over a 'derogatory post' against the district administration. According to DC Sindhu B Rupesh, the man identified as Melwyn Pinto had sent a derogatory message on WhatsApp.

She warned on taking stringent action against miscreants who are spreading false information and rumours about district administration under DM Act provisions.

Meanwhile, City Commissioner of Police Dr P S Harsha said, "We have noticed people going around on merry rides without purpose either on two-wheelers or in cars during the lockdown period."

Bengaluru, Apr 2: About 1,500 people from Karnataka might have attended the Tablighi Jamaat event in Nizamuddin in the national capital between March 8 to 20. Of these, the State has been able to trace 800 people.
 
Of the 800 persons, 143 people have been found to be symptomatic.
 
Mr Jawaid Akhtar, Additional Chief Secretary (Health and Family Welfare), in a statement here on Thursday said that the Centre had sent the list of 1,500 people to the State.
 
“We cannot say if all these have attended the congregation. Some of them may have attended and some may be the contacts of those who have attended. We have been able to trace 800 from the list and samples of 143 symptomatic persons have been sent for tests."
