Students go on cleanliness drive to create awareness

Uppinangady, March 9: Students of Government First Grade College here on Wednesday conducted a cleanliness programme to create awareness among the citizens on the ill effects of the plastics.


Over a hundred enthusiastic students, both boys and girls, initiated their cleanliness drive from government bus stand and traversed through the main roads and places of the town picking the scattered rubbish and plastic wastes.

The demonstrators also took out a march raising anti-plastic slogans and urging the people to strive to eradicate plastics. They requested the shop keepers to avoid the use of plastic bags too.

Principal of the college Subrahmanya Bhat and activist Sudarshan led the students. Lecturers of the college also took part.

I'm impressed, I have to admit. Rarely do I encounter a blog that's both educative
and engaging, and let me tell you, you have hit the nail on the head.
The problem is something that not enough people are speaking intelligently about.
Now i'm very happy that I found this in my hunt for something regarding this.

Dammam, May 29: A woman hailing from Mangaluru, who was waiting for repatriation amidst coronavirus lockdown in Saudi Arabia, passed away yesterday after a brief illness.

The deceased has been identified as Lateefa (55), wife of Abdul Azeez, a resident of Angaragundi near Baikampady on the outskirts of the city.

She had flown to Saudi Arabia in November 2019 along with her husband to spend some time with their NRI son in Dammam. They were supposed to return in April this year.

After the sudden cancellation of regular flights due to lockdown, they were waiting for the repatriation flights from Dammam to Mangaluru or Bengaluru.

Meanwhile, Lateefa’s health condition worsened and she was hospitalised. She passed away on Thursday without responding to any treatment. Last rites are expected to take place in Dammam.

Bengaluru, May 10: Former Karnataka Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy on Sunday accused the state government of not preparing proper guidelines to bring back people who are stranded near the Karnataka-Maharashtra border areas.

"No proper guidelines have been given to officials to bring back people who are stranded near the Karnataka-Maharashtra border. From the last 45 days, many of these people have not got any relief nor are there any proper directions or guidelines from the state government," alleged Kumaraswamy.

He also accused the state government of cheating the people of Karnataka.

"Karnataka government is cheating people the same way it cheated with the flood compensation. The state government had announced lakhs of rupees as compensation to those who lost houses in the flood last year. But nobody has got the records or details as to how many people got benefited from it," he added.
Fifty-three more COVID-19 cases were reported in Karnataka on Sunday, the state government said.

The total number of cases in the state is at 847, including 405 discharged and 31 deaths so far, the bulletin said.
