Kedila GP President caught red-handed by Lokayukta

Mangalore, March 11: A gram panchayat president has been trapped by the Lokayukta sleuths red handed while accepting bribe from a labourer.

Kedila Gram Panchayat President Guddappa Rai had allegedly demanded bribe from complainant K Krishnamoorthi Bhat for the release of a bill pertaining to the construction of Rajiv Gandhi Seva Kendra building near the panchayat office.

According to the complaint, Rai had demanded Rs 40,000 as bribe to release Rs 10 lakh. The complainant agreed to pay Rs 25,000 and went to the gram panchayat with Rs 10,000 as the first installment after filing complaint with the Lokayukta.

Lokayukta sleuths led by Superintendent of Police D S Jagamayyanavar trapped Rai while he was accepting Rs 10,000 from Bhat.

SM Varnikar, Udaya M Nayak, Dileep Kumar, Laxmikantha and others staff took part in the operation.

Karnataka govt to build guest house for Kannadiga pilgrims in Ayodhya

Bengaluru, Aug 8: Anticipating a huge number of pilgrims from Karnataka to start visiting Ayodhya following the foundation stone laying ceremony of the Ram temple, Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa on Friday requested his Uttar Pradesh counterpart Yogi Adityanath for two acres of land to build a 'yatri nivas' (guest house).

"A large number of pilgrims from Karnataka would be visiting Ayodhya. The government of Karnataka wishes to construct a yatri nivas for the pilgrims visiting Ayodhya," Yediyurappa wrote to Yogi.

"I request you to grant two acres of land in Ayodhya for this purpose," he said.

The Chief Minister said the yatri nivas will be constructed for the benefit of pilgrims from the southern state.

He also congratulated the Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister for successfully laying the foundation stone for the Ram temple on Wednesday.

Karnataka: 80-yearr-old dies from COVID-19; death toll rises to 17

Apr 21: An 80-year-old COVID-19 patient has died in Karnataka's Kalaburagi district, taking the death toll in the state to 17, Medical Education Minister K Sudhakar said on Tuesday.

The elderly person was suffering from Parkinson's disease for the last three years and died at a hospital on Monday, the minister said in a tweet.

"The person had developed fever on Sunday and was admitted to the hospital. The patient passed away yesterday at 9 am. Last night at 9 pm the death report came, which confirmed that the person was COVID-19 positive," Sudhakar tweeted.

The total number of COVID-19 infections in the state has crossed the 400-mark, according to last evening's bulletin by the Karnataka health department.

Locals allege VVIP racism after Karandlaje visitis Chamundeshwari temple amidst lockdown

Mysuru, Jul 19: Residents in the vicinity of the Chamundeshwari temple alleged VVIP racism against the administration for allowing BJP MP Shobha Karandlaje for a special visit there on Friday.

Even though the district collector had ordered the closure of temple visits due to the COVID pandemic, an exception was made for VVIPs.
The BJP leader claimed that she visited the temple on Thursday evening but the temple officials confirmed that she visited the temple on Friday at 7 am. It is her routine every year to visit the temple on the last Friday of Ashada Masa.

Locals, who tried get darshan of Chamundi Devi, were barred by the police leading to an altercation between locals and cops at the entrance to the temple.

Ashada Masa is considered an auspicious occasion and it is a belief among politicians that for the longevity of their political career, they need to visit Chamundeshwari temple every last Friday of Ashada Masa.
