Triple celebrations at Father Muller Charitable Institutions on March 13

Mangalore, March 11: Father Muller Charitable Institutions (FMCI) is getting ready to celebrate Institution Day, Graduation Ceremony of Fr Muller Charitable Institutions and the Inauguration of year long silver jubilee celebrations of Fr. Muller College of Nursing on Sunday, March 13 at the Father Muller Stadium, Kankandy here.

Addressing the media persons at Press Club here on Friday, Fr Dennis D'Sa, Administrator, FMCI said that a total number of 458 Graduates from the College and School of Nursing, Homeopathic Medical College, Allied Health Science College and College of Speech will be graduating on that day which would also mark the 170th birth anniversary of the Founder Rev Fr. Augustus Muller SJ

He said Dr M Veerappa Moily, Union Minister for Law and Justice, Dr. Ramananda Shetty , Vice Chancellor of Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences Bangalore will be the chief guests while Most Rev. Dr. Aloysius Paul D'Souza, will preside over the functions.

The students from various colleges and courses will be receiving their degrees on the occasion.

Inauguration of the Silver Jubilee year of the College of Nursing:

Dennis D'Sa also said Fr Muller Charitable Institutions is in its 131 year of fruitful services to humanity in the area of healthcare. Fr. Muller School of Nursing and Fr. Muller Homeopathic Medical College have completed 31 and 26 years respectively. Fr. Muller Medical College has celebrated its Decennial year in 2010, he added.

Fr. Muller College of Nursing was established in the year 1987 with the broad vision of the management, to educate and train young girls with an attitude of caring and serving the needy people selflessly. The College of Nursing has added many feathers of achievement in its golden crown as the years passed and now it has transformed from just a name to a brand name, which is globally reputed, meeting the standards and qualities in every jubilee celebrations “AGLOW 11/12” will be inaugurated on this occasion.

Dr. Jayaprakash Alva, Dean, FMMC and Dr. Srinath Rao, Principal, FMHMC were present at the press meet.

Bengaluru, Jul 22: A 54-year-old man committed suicide at his home, after he learned that he was tested positive for Covid-19, at Devasandra, in Sadashivanagar.

The deceased, Shivamahadeva, ran a cot shop in Yeshwantpur along with his brother. The police said that he was single and was living with his elder brother and his family.

In another incident, a 50-year-old man, committed suicide fearing Covid-19 and the stigma related to the illness.

The deceased has been identified as Nagaraju, a resident of Doddaballapura and a native of Hesaraghatta, and his body was found at the Hesaraghatta lake.

The police said that during the investigation it was found that the neighbours had accused Nagaraju of spreading the infection.

Mangaluru/Udupi, Jun 24: Dakshina Kannada reported 12 new coronavirus positive cases where as neighbouring Udupi district reported 14 new cases today. Dakshina Kannada also reported a covid related death. 

Among the 12 cases in DK, 8 are males and 4 females. Four among them had recently come from Sharjah. One is suffering from severe acute respiratory infections (SARI) and seven with influenza like illness (ILI) symptoms.

In Udupi, there were two children among 14 people who tested positive today. There are 8 males and 6 females. Nine are Maharashtra returnees, one has travelled from Bengaluru, three have contracted infection from P-3851, and the source of infection of one more patient is being traced.

Bengaluru, Jan 31: Senior IPS officer Praveen Sood is the new Head of Police Force in Karnataka as the current DG and IG Neelamani Raju today retired.

Praveen Sood, the DIG of CID’s Economic Offences Wing, introduced several reforms that sped up investigation processes. He introduced the Crime and Criminal Tracking Network System all over the state by networking all police stations in the country and ensuring data entry and retrieval of all information in police stations and higher police officers online.

Born in 1964, Sood graduated from IIT Delhi and joined the Indian Police Service in 1986. He kicked off his career as the Assistant Superintendent of Police in Mysuru in 1989. He has served as the SP of Ballari and Raichur before being posted as the Deputy Police Commissioner (Law and Order) of Bengaluru.

In 1999, he served as the police officer on foreign deputation as the police advisor to the Government of Mauritius for 3 years.  He was posted as Police Commissioner of Mysuru City between 2004 and 2007.

He took over as the Additional Commissioner of Police (Traffic) in Bengaluru in 2008 and continued in the post till 2011. He has won the Chief Minister’s Gold Medal for excellence in service in 1996, the Police Medal for Meritorious Service in 2002  and the President’s Police Medal in 2011.

During 2013-14 he took over as Managing Director of Karnataka State Police Housing Corporation. He later worked as the Principal Secretary to the Home  Department as the Additional Director General of Police (Karnataka State Reserve Police) and the ADGP of Administration.

In 2017, he was appointed the Bengaluru Police Commissioner. He was also instrumental in launching “Suraksha” App and “Pink Hoyasalas” managed by all-women police officers.

As the DIG of the CID, Economic offences and Special Units, he is credited for opening the Centre for Cyber-crime Investigation, Training and Research for training police officers, prosecutors and the judiciary in handling cyber crime cases.
