Vayalar Ravi, Moily to attend diamond Jubilee Celebration of Mangalore Airport on Sunday

Mangalore, March 11: Vayalar Ravi, Union Minister for Civil Aviation and M Veerappa Moily, Union Minister for Law and Justice will be attending the Diamond Jubilee Celebration of Mangalore Airport which will be held on March 13 at St Aloysius High School Auditorium, here.

Revealing this to media persons here on Friday, K Thejomaya, Coordinator of Diamond Jubilee Celebration Committee said the celebration would mark the 60th anniversary of the historical event of December 21, 1951 when then Prime Minister Jawaharalal Nehru inaugurated the Airport by flying from New Delhi to Mangalore.

Nalin Kumar Kateel, J Krishna Palemar, N Yogish Bhat, Oscar Fernandes, DV Sadananda Gowda, Abhayachandra Jain and others will also participate, he said.

He said as part of the celebrations, a serious of programmes through out the year including a seminar on “Indian Aviation and Tourism- Opportunities and New Directions”, rural sports meet, cultural extravaganza of school children, college students and women, national seminar on “Innovation in the construction of Airport and Mangalore as an International Airport”, state level sports (Kabaddi, weight lifting) will be held.

The valedictory function will be held on December at Kenjar New Terminal Airport.

Pascal Pinto, NRI, Kuwait and Prabhakaran Shriyan were present at the press meet.

Bengaluru, Mar 12: Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister Dr CN Ashwathnarayan on Wednesday said rumours that the state government has asked offices to remain closed tomorrow are false.

He clarified that the government has asked employers to explore the option of work from home amid the coronavirus scare.

"The rumours that the Govt has asked offices to remain closed tomorrow are false. We have asked employers to explore options of work from home for their employees. Let us be vigilant about this issue and not fall prey to any such rumours," Ashwathnarayan tweeted.

Meanwhile, Safdarjung Hospital in Delhi has cancelled all seminars, workshops or conferences in the premises in the wake of coronavirus spread.

"All the functions including seminars, workshops, conferences are to be cancelled. This is for urgent and necessary compliance," officials from the hospital said.

Kundapur, Mar 2: A 43-year-old man was arrested by the local police in Udupi district after he allegedly raised pro-Pakistan at Mini Vidhana Soudha in Kundapur today morning.

The man has been identified as Raghavendra Ganiga (43), a resident of Kody in Kundapur. He was working as a Hindi teacher in a private school in the town a few years ago.

According to sources, Ganiga arrived at the Mini Vidhana Soudha at around 10 am and scaled the steps to the building raising 'Pakistan Zindabad' slogans repeatedly.

He continued to raise slogans on the corridor and after entering a hall.  A few people recorded this drama on their mobile phones and informed the police.

Later, Kundapur tahisldar filed a written complaint against with the local police, who took Ganiga into custody.

According to police, Ganiga was under depression after his wife deserted him and left him with their only child.

Udupi, Jun 1: As many as 73 people have been tested positive for coronavirus in Udupi district today.

The district has registered a total of 260 positive cases so far. Majority of the positive cases in Udupi district have inter-state travel history to Maharashtra.
