Chikmagalur, March 13: The confusions clouding the Urus celebration at Sriguru Dattatreya Bababudangiri Swami Darga near here seems to be amplifying by every passing day.

In a press release issued on Friday, the Darga traditional head Sayed Gaus Mohiyuddin Shakhadri has said, he had sent an application to the Deputy Commissioner requesting his permission for observing Urus as per the order issued by the Supreme Court.

“After the discussions with Fakir, we have decided the Urus schedule on March 26, 27 and 28. We oppose the opinion of the BJP Minority Block who has urged us to celebrate Uroos on the day suggested by the district administration. I request the district administration to reply to my letter at the earliest,” he said.

In yet another development, the temporary committee consisting of 25 members which has extended support to the Shakhadri has suspended the committee President Aurangazeb from his post. Responding to his suspension, Aurangazeb said, he was appointed as the President by 40 dignitaries and the committee has no right to hold such kind of meetings all of a sudden and suspend the President.

If at all the members think that they have the power, then let them exhibit the power first and then suspend me, he challenged. He defended his acts by saying that he has only acted as a bridge between the Deputy Commissioner and the Shakhadri. He opined that entire confusion will be cleared once the Shakhadri arrives at India before the Holi fest.

DC N S Channappa Gowda has said that according to the previous orders, Uroos must be celebrated on the very next day of Holi. This year the Holi is on March 19, thus Uroos must be observed on March 20, 21 and 22, he confirmed.

"My party MP D Kupendra Reddy is there in the Rajya Sabha as of now and further decisions will be taken by the party. In March 2019, towards the end of the 16th Lok Sabha I had declared that I will not contest any more elections," Deve Gowda added.

Four Rajya Sabha seats in Karnataka are about to fall vacant in June this year as two of Congress, one of BJP and JD(S) MPs retire.

Bengaluru, May 24: Karnataka Tourism Minister CT Ravi said that coronavirus lockdown has severely marred the tourism industry in the state and the government will revive it in a phased manner.

"It would be beneficial if hotels are opened keeping in mind few restrictions. At present, the tourism industry has fallen flat making it very difficult to promote tourism in the state," Ravi said.

"Our department has planned to promote tourism in a phased manner. In the first phase, we would focus on native tourism; then in the second phase, we will promote inter-district travel; in the third phase, we will put weight behind inter-state tourism and in the fourth phase, we would be promoting international travel and tourism," he added.

Karnataka's COVID-19 count surges to 1,958 with 216 new cases of the virus reported in the last 24 hours, said the Health Department in a bulletin on Saturday.
