II PUC exams begin smoothly across DK

Mangalore, March 17: Like other parts of the state, the final examinations of II year Pre University course began in the Dakshina Kannada district, where 47 examination centres have been set up for over 29,000 students.


Students of Commerce and Science, faced Business Studies and Chemistry respectively as their first papers on Thursday. The examination centres seemed half filled on the first day as the students of Arts are still at home, getting ready for their first paper, Kannada, on Friday.


Although the Department of Public Instructions has not disclosed the total number of freshers and repeaters in this examination, a higher official has revealed that there are around 29,000 freshers in the district.


For the smooth conduct of the examination, which will conclude on March 30, district and taluk level committees have been set up, which will work towards preventing examination related malpractices and also ensure that the sanctity of the examination is upheld, according to Deputy Commissioner Subodh Yadav, who is heading the district level committee.


The City Police Commissioner, Deputy Directors of departments of Women and Child Welfare, Fisheries, and PUC education and Deputy Secretary of Zilla Panchayat are the members of the district level committee.


The second district level team is headed by chief executive officer of ZP and consists of Superintended of Police, Joint Director, Department of Agriculture, District Social Welfare Officer, and Deputy Director, Department of Public Instructions.


The taluk level committees for Mangalore, Moodbidri and Bantwal taluks headed by Assistant Commissioner, Mangalore, comprise five members. Likewise, the taluk level committees for Puttur, Sullia and Belthangady comprise five officers and headed by the Assistant Commissioner, Puttur.


The heads of the committees would submit daily reports to the DC, who has directed them to ensure there are no examination malpractice.


All photocopying centres within the radius of 200 meters from the examination centres will remain closed during exam hours and the area is declared as prohibited by the DC.

Bengaluru, Mar 26: Karnataka government has warned strict penal action against landlords or house-owners under provisions of law for forcing doctors, paramedical staff and healthcare professionals to vacate their rented residences citing COVID-19 spread through them as the reason.

Stating that lot of complaints have been received in this regard, an order issued by Additional Chief Secretary Health and Family Welfare department Jawaid Akhtar said such behaviour amounted to obstructing public servant in discharging their duties./

Noting that the state government has issued Karnataka Epidemic Diseases (COVID-19) regulations 2020 for prevention and containment of the virus, it directed Deputy Commissioners of the district, Commissioner and Joint Commissioner of BBMP (civic body in Bengaluru), Commissioners of Municipal Corporations and District Deputy Commissioner of Police to take action against such incidents.

"Strict penal action should be taken against such landlords or house-owners under relevant provisions of law and submit an action taken report on a daily basis to the office of Additional Chief Secretary, Home Department," the order read.

Bengaluru, Mar 25: Karnataka Minister Dr K Sudhakar has been allocated all matters related to COVID-19 by the Governor on the advice of Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa.
Health Minister B Sriramulu, who earlier handled matters related to COVID-19, has been allotted the Backward Class Welfare Development portfolio.
Karnataka on Monday announced a complete lockdown in the state till April 1.
"In the wake of the coronavirus outbreak, the entire state will be locked down from 12 o'clock night of March 23 to April 1. People are requested to strictly follow it to contain the coronavirus spread," Yediyurappa had said.

Bengaluru, June 27: In the wake of mounting covid-19 cases across Karnataka, the state government has decided to extend the night curfew hours and to re-impose Sunday lockdown. 

Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa held an emergency meeting on Saturday with the state's top officials to discuss measures to further contain the spread of the novel coronavirus. 

During the meeting, it was decided that a state-wide lockdown will be imposed on each Sunday starting July 5. Only essential services and supplies will be allowed on Sundays.

Timings of the night curfew have also been revised to 8 PM - 5 AM from the earlier 9 PM - 5 AM. “We have decided to impose a curfew starting Monday, June 29, from 8 pm to 5 am every day. Right now, the curfew timing is 9 pm to 5 am, but it’ll be advanced by an hour to 8 pm,” said Home Minister Basavaraj Bommai

Commissioner of Bengaluru's civic body, BBMP has been directed to set up more wholesale vegetable markets to deter large crowds.

Meanwhile, government offices in Karnataka will open only five days a week and the weekend will be off for government employees.

It was also decided during the meeting on Saturday that a centralized bed-allocation system for Covid-19 patients will be taken up to ensure that each patient gets a bed without overwhelming the healthcare infrastructure.

Yediyurappa has also instructed officials to increase the number of ambulances for Covid-19 patients to 250 apart from arranging separate vehicles to carry mortal remains of victims. The police control room will aid officials in identifying the location and easing the movement of ambulances.

Information about nodal officers working for COVID management will be published. Joint Commissioners of 8 regions will be given additional responsibilities and KAS officers will be appointed to assist them.

The services of 180 ESI doctors appointed by the Labour Department will also be relied on by the state government. CM Yediyurappa has also asked officials to reserve wedding halls, hostels and other institutions in Bengaluru as COVID Care Centres.

Bengaluru Urban DC, on the other hand, was instructed to identify more places for the last rites of patients and also to form more teams for this purpose. 

The BBMP Commissioner has been told to notify reservation of 50 per cent beds in medical colleges and private hospitals.
