Uppala: Miscreants kill youth

Uppala, March 17: A Youth was brutally killed by unknown miscreants at Uppala near here on Wednesday.


The deceased has been identified as 29 year-old Muhammad Azharuddin, son of Shekh Muhammad Samad, resident of Hidayath Nagar.


According to sources, a group of miscreants stabbed him several times when he was sitting at a mobile phone shop leaving him in a pool of blood and he died on the spot.


Having criminal background, several cases have been registered against him in various police stations. He was released a year ago after being imprisoned for one year under Goonda Act. It is said that the miscreants were trying to eliminate him since four months.


Police suspected that the motive behind the murder was revenge. Manjeshwar police are investigating.

Bengaluru, Feb 5: New Tulu movie Pingara has bagged the NETPAC International Jury Award at the 12th edition of Bengaluru International Film Festial (BIFFes) on Wednesday.

Written and directed by Preetham R Shetty, the movie revolves around people who worship daivas (spirits) of Tulu Nadu.

The narrative goes back and forth in time, to tell the story of a family to Sinchana (Chaitanya Chandramohan), a journalist from Bengaluru who visits a village in Tulu Nadu to ‘write on Tulu culture.’

The film speaks about the caste system in Tulu Nadu and the struggle for land in the post-independence period.

Kodagu, Mar 19: One more person has tested positive for coronavirus in Kodagu on Thursday, taking the tally of confirmed cases in the state to 15.

The man has a travel history to Saudi Arabia.

"One person has tested positive for #COVID19 in Kodagu today; he has travel history to Saudi Arabia. He is being treated in an isolation hospital. Total number of positive cases reaches 15 in the state," said B Sriramulu, Karnataka Health Minister.

A total of 169 positive cases of coronavirus have been reported in India so far, the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare said on Thursday.

Globally, the virus has infected more than 184,000 people and killed more than 7500, as per the data available on the World Health Organisation website.

Bengaluru, May 8: 45 more COVID-19 cases have been reported from Karnataka, taking the total number of coronavirus cases in the state to 750, the state Health Department said on Friday.

According to the Health Department, the total cases include 371 discharged cases and 30 deaths.
