Puttur girl receives state level “Kalasri” award

Mangalore, March 19: Multi-talented budding magician Shama Parvin Taj from Puttur received the State level “Kalasri” award in recognition of her achievement in the field of magic.



The “Kalashri” competition was conducted for children who had won awards in arts and science competitions organised Department of Women and Child Welfare at Bangalore recently.



The award was given away during the silver jubilee celebration programme organised by the department in association with Bangalore Balbhavan Society at Cubbon Park in Bangalore.



Chief Minister BS Yeddyurappa presented the award to Shama Parvin.



Shama Parvin Taj is a 9th standard student of Government PU College Puttur, and is the daughter of entrepreneur Abdurrazaq and Mubina Parvin Taj, a lecturer of Vivekananda Technical Institution.

Belagavi, Mar 19: South Western Railway (SWR) on Thursday increased the fares of the platform tickets at Belagavi, Hubballi and Ballari.

The rate of platform tickets has been increased to Rs 50 with effect from Thursday till March 31, in order to control the crowding at platforms in view of the coronavirus outbreak.

Belagavi, Hubballi, and Bellari were all big stations and maximum number of people, including both passengers and those there to see them off come or to receive them at these railway stations, a SWR official sources said.

Mangaluru, Apr 4: No positive case of coronavirus has been detected in Dakshina Kannada district as per the latest update released by the district administration on Friday.

Test results of throat swab samples of 16 people with suspected symptoms were received today and all of them were negative.

A total of 38,518 people have been screened for coronavirus in Dakshina Kannada district till date with 72 people being screened today.

Mangaluru, Jul 29: Ahead of popular Hindu festival Raksha Bandhan, Karnataka postal circle has introduced an online portal 'Rakhi Post' to deliver rakhis across the country amid the COVID-19 outbreak.

This year Raksha Bandhan will be celebrated on Monday, August 3.

This service can be used to send rakhis to people across the country without violating the coronavirus norms.

Speaking to news agency, Senior Superintendent of Post offices, Shriharsha N said, "I am happy to announce that Karnataka postal circle has introduced an online portal 'rakhi post' to deliver rakhis to people during coronavirus phase."

"People willing to avail this service can visit this portal and pay a nominal amount of Rs 100 to send a rakhi," Shriharsha said.

The official has suggested to avail the service before July 31 for the timely delivery of rakhis.

The portal is also offering a special service to send rakhis to the soldier deployed on the borders. "We have also introduced a unique feature to deliver rakhis to Indian soldiers on the borders," he added.
