Muhammad Kulai selected for KBBP award

Mangalore, March 19: The Kuvempu Bhasha Bharati Pradhikara (KBBP) has announced its translation and book awards for 20 writers.



The awards will be presented at a function to be held at the end of this month.



Releasing the list of writers chosen for the award, Pradhikara Chairperson Pradhan Gurudut said that CP Krishnakumar, K.L. Gopalakrishna Rao, Uma Virupaksha Kulkarni, N.S. Lakshminarayana Bhatta and K.S. Bhagavan have been selected for the translation award for 2009-10.



Sadananda Kanavalli, G. Ramakrishna, G.N. Ranganatha Rao, S.N. Sangolli and Parvathi Aithal were selected for 2010-11, Gurudutt said.



Similarly, writers K.P. Suresh, Late Janaki, Journalist Ravi Belagere, Mohammad Kulai and Chandrakantha Pokale have been selected for the book award for 2008 and Madhava Chippali, J.S. Kusumageetha, Chidananda Sali, K.K. Gangadharan and Sumithra Halavai were chosen for 2009, he said.



Members of the Pradhikara D. Javare Gowda, G.S. Shivarudrappa, L.S. Seshagiri Rao, Siddalingaiah, Hampa Nagarajaiah, Chandraiah Naidu, Ramzan Darga, Rajesh Sachdev and S.R. Ramaswamy have selected the translation awardees, he said and added that critics from various parts of the state have selected the winners of the book award.
Cash prize


Translation award winners will get a cash prize of Rs. 25,000, a statue of Saraswathi and a citation.
Book award winners will get a cash prize of Rs. 10,000 and a citation.



“While the translation award winners are selected on the basis of their contribution to the field, prominent translated works published during 2008 and 2009 have been considered for the book award. The winners have translated the best works in English, Hindi, Telugu, Malayalam, Urdu, Marathi and Tulu,” he said.

Bengaluru, Jun 26: Karnataka Congress president DK Shivakumar on Thursday suggested that the cost of building and installing a new statue of Nada Prabhu Kempegowda in the Bengaluru airport should be borne by Kempegowda international airport (KIAL).

Shivakumar wrote to Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa and welcomed the decision of erecting a statute of Bengaluru founder Kempegowda at KIAL but he also suggested that the chief minister should not spend state government's money on this.

He said that the Karnataka government has done many favours to airport authority earlier.

Kasaragod, Mar 23: The district administration on Monday decided to abandon efforts to map out the movement details of the NRI who came from Dubai recently and came into contact with many in North Kerala.

The district has been completely locked down since Monday morning, on the directive of the Central Government. Prohibitory orders have been slapped in the district since Sunday night to restrict socialisation of the people.

As the person now in isolation have allegedly been non-cooperative, the authorities were finding it difficult to sketch out a rote map as his movement and socialisation has been so vast and wide since his arrival here on March 12.

The middle aged and popular NRI who landed at Karipur airpprt on March 11 had been in Calicut till midnight prior to boarding the Maveli Express to make it to his hometown Kasaragod, which is 160 kms away from Calicut. He had come into contact with very many, including two MLAs of the district, prior to getting tested positive and getting isolated in the hospital.

Mysuru, Jan 11: Accusing the Congress and other opposition parties of pursuing “vote bank politics” on the Citizenship (Amendment ) Act (CAA), Kannada littérateur and Saraswathi Samman awardee S L Byrappa accused the party of misleading the people on the issue.

Speaking to media persons here on Friday, Mr Bhyrappa said that Congress was adopting the divide and rule policy of the British, who had created a rift between the Hindus and the Muslims to break their unity during the freedom struggle.
