Inauguration of dialysis unit at SCS hospital on Mar 27

Mangalore, March 24: Tulukoota Kuwait, a socio-cultural organization has donated a dialysis unit to SCS Hospital in the city.


Addressing media persons here, Dr Jeevaraj Sorake, Managing Director of the hospital said that the department will be inaugurated on March 27 by Krishna J Palemar, District in Charge Minister and Vinaya Kumar Sorake of AICC.


MLAs Yogish Bhat, UT Khader, MLC Ganesh Karnik, Ivan D'Souza will be the chief guests.


He said the department will be managed by highly qualified consultants and technicians in the professional manner.


Swarna Shetty, President of Tulukoota, Ramesh Kidiyoor and Suresh Shanbagh were present.

Mangaluru, Mar 8: A cruise ship with a Panama flag has been turned back at the New Mangalore Port here following the Centre's advisory in the wake of the coronavirus outbreak, officials said.

The vessel 'MSC Lirica' was sent back on Saturday as the Union Ministry of Shipping had directed all ports not to allow any cruise ship from foreign destinations to call on Indian ports.

No further details about the ship were disclosed.

New Mangaluru Port Trust chairman A V Ramana said the ministry has directed all ports to deny entry to cruise ships till March 31 in the wake of the coronavirus scare.

Around 25 vessels were expected to call on the port here during the cruise season.

Meanwhile, the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) conducted an awareness programme on prevention of coronavirus COVID-19 at Mangaluru International Airport.

The stakeholders were sensitised on handling passengers affected with covid-19 and precautions to be taken for dealing with affected passengers.

Bengaluru, Aug 4: The heath condition of Karnataka Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa who had tested positive for Covid-19 continues to be stable and he is currently asymptomatic, hospital source said.

Congress leader and former chief minister Siddaramaiah who too has tested positive for Covid-19, is suffering from high fever and is currently receiving treatment. He has been admitted at the Manipal hospital in Bengaluru.

"I request all those who had come in contact with me to check out for symptoms and to quarantine themselves," Siddaramaiah had said in a tweet.

Yediyurappa, is in the same hospital for treatment along with his daughter B Y Padmavati, who too tested positive for the virus on Monday.

Yediyurappa on Sunday night (2 August) had tweeted that, "I have tested positive for coronavirus. Whilst I am fine, I am being hospitalised as a precaution on the recommendation of doctors. I request those who have come in contact with me recently to be observant and exercise self quarantine.”

Chikkamagaluru, May 9: A young Hindu activist allegedly killed his brother at Beeranahalli in Tarikere taluk of Chikkamagaluru district in Karnataka over a board game dispute.

The accused has been identified as 26-year-old Kiran and the victim is his 29-year-old brother Arun, said police.

According to police, the duo were playing a board game on Thursday and they had placed a bet of Rs 500. 

After Arun won the game, he asked for the money and Kiran refused to yield, which lead to an argument. 

In a fit of rage, an intoxicated Kiran hit his brother and when the latter fell unconscious and dragged him on to the road.

Arun was immediately rushed to McGann Hospital in Shivamogga. However, he died on Thursday night, said police.

A case was registered at the Lakkavalli Police Station.
