Hosangadi village to be adopted by Alva's Foundation

Moodbidri, March 27: Alva's Education Foundation has decided to adopt Hosangadi village, which has recently been recognised as the cleanest village in the state.



Dr Mohan Alva, Chief of the Foundation, has announced that activities such as maintenance of cleanliness of the village, making the village plastic free, turning Hosangadi into a village free of badill-habits etc would be supported financially by Alva's Foundation.



He made this announcement while addressing the gathering at a programme organized by the Hosangadi Friends Club.



Dr Alva also said that support will be provided from his Foundation to the deserving candidates from backward communities of the region for their education.



On the occasion three students - Deepak of Std IV, DKZP Higher Primary School, Badakodi, Manmatha of Std VII, DKZP Higher Primary School, Paddandadka, and Siraj Mansoor of Std VII, DKZP Higher Primary School, Perinje, were awarded the 'Shaala Nairmalya Ratna' prize for picking up the highest amount of plastic waste in the Hosangadi village range.



Social worker Hariprasad, the man behind 'Madari Mane Susthithi Samudaya Yojane' project, was also felicitated on the occasion by Hosangadi Friends Club.



Dr L H Manjunath distributed certificates to the deserving families identified under the project.

Mysuru, Jul 9: The renowned Mysore Palace has been closed on Thursday after a relative of an employee at the palace was tested COVID-19 positive, an official said.

The palace has been closed for the visitors in the view of rising COVID-19 cases. Authorities have decided to re-open the palace on Monday.

Earlier the Palace was closed for tourists for a week from March 15 to 22, in the wake of the coronavirus outbreak, Mysore Palace committee said.

According to the Union Health Ministry, Karnataka has reported 28,877 COVID-19 positive cases including 16,531 active, 11,876 cured/discharged/migrated while 470 succumbed to the virus.

Bengaluru, Jun 28: Novel coronavirus has claimed another police officer's life here, official sources said on Sunday.

According to official sources, the deceased police officer attached to station in Whitefield division had collapsed in his home on Saturday.

The 57-year-old Police officer, working as an Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) who was diagnosed with COVID-19 infection, also reportedly suffered from breathing related problems, the sources said.

Bengaluru, Apr 11: Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) president D K Shivakumar on Saturday lodged a complaint with Director General and Inspector General of Police Praveen Sood seeking action against four BJP leaders for their alleged communal statements.

In his petition, Mr Shivakumar cited remarks made by BJP MP Shobha Karandlaje, former union minister Anant kumar Hegde, MP Renukacharya and MLA Basanagouda Patil Yatnal were ''vituperative statements'' which were offences under Section 153A of the IPC.

The Congress leader alleged that the four leaders ''joined in a criminal conspiracy to create enmity between Hindus and the minority community.''
