Udupi City Municipal Council presents surplus budget

Udupi, March 28: President of Udupi City Municipal Council Kiran Kumar on Monday presented a Rs 183.76 lakh surplus budget for Udupi city for the year 2011-12.

The budget showed an initial balance of Rs 1036.01 lakh, expected an income of Rs 7016.85 lakh and proposed an expenditure of Rs 7869.10 lakh for the coming financial year.

In the budget proposal Kiran Kumar announced to acquire land in the Parkala town, a bottleneck on the Malpe-Monakalmooru state highway, for widening the road. Acquisition has already been proposed and an amount of Rs 3 crore from the CM's Small and Medium Towns' Development Progamme had been earmarked.

He said that the land acquisition process for widening the road at Diana Circle was at the verge of completion and the Circle would be developed soon after that. Likewise, Rs 13 crores had been deposited with the land acquisition officer, to acquire land for widening the stretch between Tangadagadi-Kalsanka. Once the land acquisition was complete, a 60 feet road would be developed spending Rs 6 crores from the state government's special grant.

An Open Air Theater will be constructed at the erstwhile Municipal dumping yard, at Beedinagudde. For the purpose, a Rs 6 crore project had been prepared. The works of the first stage will be taken up by Rs 2.50 crore from the CM's Small and Medium Towns' Development Progamme and Rs 1 crore from the state government's special grant.

Other proposals of the budget included modernization of Town Hall at Ajjarkad, at a cost of Rs 4 crores (2 crores each from the CM's SMTDP and special grant), rejuvenating the municipal crematorium at Malpe, dividing Udupi city in to 10 zones for the effective collection of solid waste from the door steps, upgrading technology to manage solid waste at the Muncipal Solid Waste Recycling Plant, at Karvalu, in a better way, construction of over head tanks at Manipal to supply water to some of the areas with enough force. Rs 6 crore has been reserved for the construction Malpe-Padukar bridge, Rs 1 crore has also been earmarked for the smooth functioning of traffic system in Udupi.

Speaking at the Budget session of the CMC Udupi MLA Raghupathi Bhat said that the water management system has been appreciated by the state government and has also been nominated for the national award. CMC Vice President Bharathi Chandrashekhar, Commissioner Gokuldas Nayak and others were present.

Bengaluru, May 17: Karnataka on Sunday extended lockdown for two days until midnight of Tuesday, May 19. Earlier today, Tamil Nadu and Maharashtra extended the lockdown till May 31. The state government said that the guidelines and norms as followed during Coronavirus Lockdown 3 will remain in place till 19th midnight or till further notice.

Meanwhile, the total number of coronavirus cases in Karnataka rose to 1,146 on Saturday. With 37 deaths and 497 discharges, there are 611 active corona cases in the state. 

Out of 54 new cases, twentytwo are from Mandya, ten from Kalaburagi, six from Hassan, four from Dharwad, three each from Yadgir and Kolar, two each from Dakshina Kannada and Shivamogga, and one each from Udupi and Vijayapura.

Bengaluru, Jul 22: On Wednesday morning starlet and Bigg Boss 3 contestant Jayashree Ramaiah sent social media into a tizzy with an update that read, “I quit. Goodbye to this f*****g world and depression.” Friends and acquaintances immediately began reaching out to the actor asking her to return their concerned calls and desist from taking any extreme steps.

“Jayashree has been battling depression for a while now. She had family issues and was also concerned about the lack of work,” shares actor Ashvithi Shetty. The Ramachari twins were in touch with Jayashree since they met at a celebrity cricket match four years ago. “She has shared several times about how low she’s been and I would try to cheer her up. But the problem was that she’d keep changing her phone number so often that it became difficult to keep track of how she was doing,” states Ashvithi.

Around four months ago, Jayashree moved into her own home and mentioned to her that she was happy with this new development in her life. “But she went retreated again and a few days ago, I messaged her on social media and she said she was doing fine. So I was shocked to see this update on Wednesday morning,” avers the actor. Repeated calls finally elicited a message from Jayashree that she was getting admitted to the hospital. “But I also got contradictory information that she had been discharged and had been taken to the hospital again but she was refusing to go inside. I am awaiting more clarity on the issue,” sums up Ashvithi.

Bengaluru, Jul 29: State officials will conduct Common Entrance Test (CET) exam as per the instructions given by the state high court, said Karnataka deputy chief minister CN Ashwathnarayan on Tuesday.

"Officials have informed that they are all set to conduct exams on July 30 and 31. We will put this matter in front of the high court. As per the instructions of the high court, we will move forward," said Ashwathnarayan.

This comes after Karnataka High court asked the state government to reconsider the decision of conducting the CET exam.

"...I had called an emergency meeting with district collectors, officials of education, transport, health, police department. And, I took information about the preparedness for conducting the CET exam," he added.

Karnataka CET Exam is a state-level entrance exam organised for providing admissions in Engineering, Pharmacy, B Pharma and other courses offered by colleges and institutions located in the state.
