Mangalore, April 4: The Dakshina Kannada district has made a 'significant record' by implementing works worth nearly Rs 8 crore in just 11 days, under the Mahatma Gandhi Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS). Even in 2009, the district had implemented works worth Rs 12 crore in just one month, which was later termed as a 'bogus progress.'

According to the official website, as on April 2, works worth Rs 1,821.05 lakh have been implemented in Dakshina Kannada district during financial year 2010-11. However, on March 21, works worth only Rs 1,036.86 lakh was implemented in the district. On March 29, works worth Rs 1,348.45 lakh have been implemented while on April 1, works worth Rs 1,788.20388 lakh has been implemented. Interestingly, on March 1, works worth Rs 634.23 lakh was implemented in the district. According to sources, “normally gram panchayats have shown Rs 7 lakh to Rs 8 lakh improvement in implementing works.

However, here about Rs Rs 784.19193 lakh worth works have been completed in just 11 days, which is highly impossible.”

According to the website, in Bantwal taluk, works worth Rs 583.92 lakh has been implemented during the period. Belthangady taluk has implemented works worth Rs 480.30 lakh. Mangalore taluk has implemented works worth Rs 357.06 lakh. Works worth Rs 252.44 lakh has been implemented in Puttur taluk while Sullia taluk has registered implementation of works worth Rs 141.72 lakh.

Sources said though Bantwal taluk tops the district in the implementation of MGNREGS, its administrative expenditure is only Rs 19.78 lakh. “However, the administrative expense of Belthangady taluk is Rs 79.70 lakh which is really startling.”

The performance of few gram panchayats too raises eyebrows. According to the website, Amaramudnoor Gram Panchayat in Sullia taluk has implemented works worth Rs 35.7211 lakh. Naravi GP has utilised Rs 75.11 lakh under MGNREGS while Neriya GP has implemented works worth Rs 40.80 lakh. In Bantwal taluk, Kedila Gram Panchayat has shown works worth Rs 32.10 lakh and Kolnadu Gram Panchayat has implemented works worth Rs 56.71 lakh. In Mangalore taluk, works worth Rs 60.43 lakh has been implemented in Neermarga Gram Panchayat limits.

Job cards

The job cards have been issued to 90,263 unemployed persons in the district till April 2. Of which, employment have been provided to 25,357 persons. In Puttur taluk, 81 families have completed 100 days work, 373 families have completed 100 days work in Puttur, 182 families in Belthangady, 372 families in Mangalore and 31 families in Sullia taluk. A total of 16,600 works are under progress in Dakshina Kannada district.

When contacted Zilla Panchayat CEO P Shivashankar, he said: “I also have doubts over the progress made in the district under MGNREGS. We will go for 100 per cent verification of the March expenditure report. What has appeared in the website may be a provisional figures. We will come to know the final figures only after the verification. Moreover, I have issued a circular to all the Gram Panchayats not to make the payment for those works which have been undertaken after March 28,” he said.

“We had similar progress in the month of March last year. The trend has been continued even this year,” the CEO said.

Jun 4: Belur Mutt, the global headquarters of Ramakrishna Mutt and Ramakrishna Mission, has decided to throw open its gates to the devotees from June 15 after putting in place all safety measures required to contain the spread of COVID-19.

The gates of the sprawling premises of the mutt set up by Swami Vivekananada at Belur near here was closed since the lockdown was announced in March by the Centre. The Mutt has devotees from across the globe.

The secretary of Belur Mutt Ramakrishna Mutt and Ramakrishna Mission, Swami Suvirananda said in a statement that as the easing down of lockdown measures announced by the Centre and the state did not indicate the threat caused by COVID-19 pandemic is over, the authorities thought it prudent to put in place all the measures required before opening the gates of the Mutt and all RKM centres in the country for the scores of devotees.

The statement was issued on June 1, the day religious places of worship were thrown open by the West Bengal government.

"We had to think about both aspects - the issue of public health and also the wish of our devotees for having a darshan of the shrines of Swami Vivekananda, Sri Sarada Maa and Ramamrishna Paramahansa. But we believe spirituality and sceintific temparament must go hand in hand," he told reporters on Thursday.

"Therefore it is imperative for us to consult experts and put in place adequate arrangement and infrastructure" before opening the (Belur Mutt) gates," he said.

The senior monk said the timing of the opening and closure of the shrine and all other details conforming the health protocol and guidelines will be announced before opening date.

The Mutt complex had become totally out of bound for visitors from March 24 when the lockdown was clamped. There was restricted entry to it since May 16.

Bangalore , Mar 24: Bizom, India's leading retail intelligence platform, announced free subscription of its retailer app and tele-ordering solutions for consumer businesses in India and other emerging economies. Both solutions enable retailers to send their orders directly to the brand.
In COVID-19 times of social distancing and prophylactic measures, brands are conscious about the safety of their salespersons. Also, retailers don't want travelling salespeople to enter their premises. Consequently, many retail stores are facing stockout situations of fast-moving product categories. Bizom's self-ordering solutions help brands to avoid stockouts of their products.
Bizom trends, which analyses consumption and demand for consumer brands, showed how a near-complete shutdown during the Janta Curfew followed panic buying in early March. The asymmetrical demand and a lack of salespeople for order-taking are driving the industry towards social-distancing-based store-stocking mechanisms.
Bizom provides social-distancing-based store-stocking solutions for consumer businesses. They include the Bizom Retailer App and the Bizom Tele-ordering.
The Bizom Retailer App enables self-ordering for a brand's key retail outlets and can be implemented in under two weeks. The mobile app, a B2B shopping app, is a simple installation for retailers. It lists and groups the brand's products as per its product categories. The app's interface is no different from that of leading e-commerce apps. All the user has to do is select the preferred SKUs and add them to their shopping carts.
The app also allows brands to customize the app to meet the requirements of their continually changing product categories. For instance, if an SKU runs out of stock, the brand can disable the given SKU from the app.
With the Bizom Retailer App, brands can take orders directly from retailers instead of the traditional order-taking approach, which requires high-touch from a salesperson. Some of the key features of the app are, the ability to provide product information directly through retailers including SKUs, competitor comparison and pricing.
It also enables self-ordering from the retailer to maintain the flow of products as per demand, enables scheme rollout information through a notification on the app rather than through salespeople, tracks delivery of goods to the retailer and enables incentive payments to retailers directly rather than through distributor claims.
With Bizom Tele-ordering, as the sales teams go remote, the tele-ordering solution will become useful for brands who want to get salespeople to take orders from retailers, remotely. It ensures continued service to outlets despite not being physically present in the market.
Here, salespeople can discuss product requirements with retailers and enter orders based on specific outlet types (grocery, chemist etc.), outlet class (Class A, Class B etc.) or based on their beat or as per a distributor.
The key features of the Bizom Tele-ordering solution are, its ability to help salespeople collect orders from retailers remotely and enter it for fulfilment into Bizom using a tool, the flexibility offered to salespeople for remote servicing of retailers as per outlet type, beat, distributor area etc., secondary schemes get applied automatically, variable discounts will get applied as applicable at an SKU level.
"At Bizom, we are conscious of our responsibility to help brands run faster during these COVID-19 times. Our solutions of Bizom Retailer App and Bizom Tele-ordering have been built to ensure that brands can leverage this situation of low direct touch with retailers to enable a better way of working, remotely. I am trying to help brands go live in a few days so that they, in turn, can serve consumers better during these testing times," said Lalit Bhise, CEO, Bizom.
