Student knocked to death by train

Kasargod, April 5 : A student died when she was hit by a speeding train while crossing the track in Mogral Puthur here.The deceased has been identified as Shamzeena (18), a plus two student of the Nellikkunnu Girls' Vocational Higher Secondary School.

She was the daughter of Moideen Kunhi of Kallankai in Mogral Puthur.


The mishap occurred around 6.30pm on Monday on the rail track behind the Mogral Puthur panchayat office in the presence of her mother and brothers.

Shamzeena and her mother were returning from the house of her cousin sister when she was hit by the train. Local people informed the police and the fire and rescue service personnel.

The body of Shamzeena was brought to the general hospital morgue by the fire and rescue service personnel.

Bengaluru, Apr 11: Seven more people have tested positive for coronavirus taking the tally to 214 in the state.

"Coronavirus cases rise to 214 in Karnataka, with seven more people testing positive between 5 PM Friday and 12 PM Saturday," said the Karnataka health department.

According to the health department, all these seven people have a history of contact with COVID-19 patients. Five of them are workers of a pharmaceutical company in Mysuru.

"Out of the total cases in the state, six people have died while 37 others were cured or discharged," added the state health department.

Shimoga, May 10: Karnataka Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa was all praise for a nine-month pregnant nurse, who is still attending to work at a Covid-dedicated hospital in the state, braving all odds in the wake of novel coronavirus pandemic.

Roopa, a resident of Gajanur, works at the Sri Jayachamarajendra Taluk Hospital in Tirthahalli.

The Chief Minister called the nurse up and admired her sense of duty after he came to know that she has been turning up at the hospital despite being in the advanced stage of pregnancy.

Uppinangady, Feb 9: Two members of a family were killed after the car collided with a tanker on the NH 75 at Bedrody near Uppinangady last night.

Police said on Sunday that the deceased have been identified as Jainy Saji (30) and her elder brother Jeeson (40).

Jainy and Jeeson were going to Uppinangady when a tanker, coming from the opposite direction, rammed into their car.
