Sri Rama Sene opposes Minister's green signal for female bartenders

June 13, 2011

Mangalore, June 13: Strongly opposing the recent move by Excise Minister M P Renukacharya to grant permission to employ female bartenders in bars and restaurants to serve food and liquor to the customers, the District unit of Sri Rama Sene (SRS) said that the Minister is promoting western and night-life culture.

Kumar Malemar, District President of Sene told media persons, here on Monday that such a move by the BJP led state government is against Indian ethos and culture.

He said the decision of the excise department would surely pave the way to indulge in illegal activities. In this backdrop, Mr Malemar said, the Minister should reconsider his decision.

However, two court verdicts (Supreme Court and the Karnataka High Court) have come in handy for Renukacharya, which state that bar owners with CL9 licence from the Department of Excise were free to employ women.

Condemning the statement of Congress leader B Janardana Poojary that BJP kept quiet on the infamous Mangalore pub attack on women while condemning police action in Ramlila, Malemar said the situations were different and girls in pub were indulging in obscene activities.

However Sri Rama Sene will support Janardana Poojary if he launches protest against BJP government over corruption, he said.

Madhusoodan Urvastore, Yogish Farangipet, Ganesh Attavar, Jeevan Neermarga and Ashok Ballalbagh and others were present.
