Mangalore, June 16: Shasthavu Sri Bhoothanatheshawara Temple, Badaga Yedapadavu, Mijar here is organising the Sri Bhoothanatheshwara Cross Country Monsoon Marathon with a cash prize totalling over Rs 7 lakh on August 15. Separate events will be held for men and women in five categories: professional sportspersons marathon (42.195 km), villagers half-marathon (21.095 km), senior citizens walkathon for those above 45 years (10.5 km), children's marathon (5.25km) and wheelchair marathon for physically challenged citizens (2.5 km).

The marathon will be conducted in and around the temple's neighbourhood. There will be three prizes for each category. The first prize for the professional sportsperson's category is Rs 1 lakh, while first prize for other categories is for Rs 25,000 each. The children's category has a prize of Rs 15,000.

Entry is free and only spot registrations will be accepted.


Theme:

The theme of the Marathon is 'Unity'. Hence people of all communities, castes and religions are welcome. Participants will be required to wear the traditional attire of their particular community to foster pride in one's community identity and also to develop mutual appreciation and respect for each other's religion / caste. In the professional sportsperson's category, collarless white T-shirt and Kachche, Mundas (turban) is compulsory dress code for men, while women shall wear collared white T-shirt and shorts.


Objective:

The objective of the marathon is to foster social harmony, cultivate appreciation of rural way of life, awaken appreciation for the rich natural splendour of our countryside and inspire the people to protect the environment and ecology.


Hence People from the city areas will be especially encouraged to participate in this rural event. Commencing and culminating at the temple premises, this cross country marathon will make the participants to go through a variety of terrain like roads, side roads, gulleys, culverts, hills, dunes, valleys, streams, woods, etc. This is to inculcate appreciation of village life and love of our beautiful and natural countryside.


Wheel Chair category marathon will be conducted in a specially developed track near the temple premises. Arrangement will be made to provide food to all the participants.


Vijaynath Vittal Shetty, the Chief Co-ordinator of the event, said in a press release, “After the very encouraging response that we received from the people for the Village Games, Kabaddi and Cricket tournaments held at the temple, we are keen to organize this marathon to promote activity during the laid back Monsoon season,”

He said “In Dakshina Kannada, we are blessed with abundant rains and there is beautifully greenery all around. We want to encourage the people to come out of their homes and celebrate the Monsoon season, which the lifeline of this region.”

Bengaluru, Mar 1: Bengaluru Police has rescued six women and arrested two people after a raid on a spa, allegedly operating illegally, in the city's HSR layout area.

"Of the women rescued three are from Thailand and the other three are from North-Eastern states," said a statement from the Central Crime Branch's (CCB) Women Protection Wing.

The raid was carried out on Saturday night and the police have arrested two people, while the owner of the spa is absconding.

The arrested suspects have been identified as Peter Sunawar and Rajkumar Radhakrishna Mishra. Further investigation is underway in the case.

Bengaluru, Jun 23: Karnataka Medical Education Minister K Sudhakar's wife and daughter have tested positive for COVID-19, a day after his father was confirmed to have been infected with the virus.

"Test results of our family members have come. Unfortunately, my wife and daughter have tested positive for #Covid19 and are undergoing treatment," the minister tweeted on Tuesday.

He said he and his two sons have tested negative.

Sudhakar's father P N Keshava Reddy tested positive for coronavirus on Monday. He was admitted to the hospital with a cough and fever.

Earlier, the domestic help of the minister had tested coronavirus positive and was admitted to a hospital.

In April, Sudhakar was quarantined along with three other ministers for coming in contact with a journalist who was coronavirus positive.

Karnataka reported 249 new COVID-19 cases and five deaths on Monday taking the total number of cases in the state to 9,399 and the death toll to 142.

Bengaluru, Apr 27: As many as 345 Bengaluru-based journalists tested negative for coronavirus on Monday after undergoing a medical check-up got up for them at a hospital here, a top official said.

They had undergone the tests at the Sir C V Raman General Hospital here on April 25 and the results came out negative on Monday. They were among a total of 1,170 journalists who took the tests at the four-day medical check-up camp at the Hospital here from April 23.

"The medical check-up was done in four slots at the Hospital here from Thursday and concluded on Monday. A total of 1,170 journalists undertook the tests, 480 of them on Monday alone, the joint director of the Department of Information and Public Relation D P Muralidhar said.

The test reports of the 480 journalists may come out on Wednesday, he said. Only one journalist tested positive so far and has been admitted to the designated COVID-19 hospital, he said, adding 36 of his primary and secondary contacts have been quarantined.
