Mass blood donation camp held in city

Mangalore, June 19: A mass blood donation camp was conducted at Dakshina Kannada District Urdu Higher Primary School, Bunder here on Sunday under the aegis of Mangalore Social Service Centre.

The Programme was inaugurated by Al-Haj Thwaqa Ahmed Musliyar, the Qazi of Mangalore. Speaking on the occasion Qazi said that donating blood with a philanthropic intention has a high value in the religious point of view.

Presiding over the programme N Yogish Bhat, Deputy Speaker of Karnataka Legislative Assembly commended the effort of organisers.

Ivan D'souza, Secretary, KPCC, Prakash Shetty Thumbe, ZP Member, Lion Nagesh Kumar, President Lions Club D K,Corporator Mamatha Shenoy, DM Aslam President, DK Football Association,KE Rasheed President, Mangalore Social Service Centre, CM Musthafa,Nazeer Bajal, Rajeshwari HM Urdu school,Khalida Banu HM Urdu Primary School were the guests.

Ex Mayor Ashraf K welcomed the guests. DM Musthafa proposed vote of thanks. Hameed Kinya compered the programe. Collected blood was handed over to KMC Hospital Mangalore. DR Kavitha Pai was present in the camp.

Kannur man admitted to isolation ward on return from Malaysia dies

Kochi, Feb 29: A 36-year-old man admitted to a government hospital here died early on Saturday due to high fever, health officials said.

The test results of blood samples of the man admitted to the isolation ward of the Coronavirus patients at Kalamassery Medical College hospital had confirmed that he was not infected with the deadly virus, doctors said.

He had been suffering from pneumonia for last five days, they said.

He was a diabetic too. His end came at 12.30 am due to multi organ failure, they said.

Medical authorities said his samples have been sent for detailed examination at the NiV lab at Alappuzha and awaiting the results.

The man from Kannur district had returned from Malaysia on Friday with high fever and breathing problem.

He was referred to the hospital after he was diagnosed with serious health issues during a thermal screening for Coronavirus at the international airport here upon his arrival from Malaysia, they said.

Doctors had said the health condition of the patient was not satisfactory.

Ernakulam District Collector S Suhas had visited the patient at the hospital on Friday, officials said.

Kerala had reported India's three Coronavirus cases but all three had been discharged from the hospitals marking their recovery of all three cases of infection in India reported from Kerala.

Karnataka govt hikes salaries of NHM doctors to Rs 45,000

Bengaluru, Jul 21: The salaries of doctors under the National Health Mission (NHM) has been hiked to Rs 45,000 in Karnataka, according to Medical Education Minister Dr K Sudhakar.

Addressing the media on Monday, Dr Sudhakar said that the state government will bear the cost of the hike in salaries of the doctors and added that ASHA workers too will get a hike in their pay soon.

Regarding the COVID-19 management in the state, he further said that testing will be increased in the containment zones.

During a meeting chaired by Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa, the Education Minister said that it had been decided that booth level committees will conduct door to door survey for early detection of influenza-like illness (ILI) and severe acute respiratory infections (SARI), and vulnerable persons.

He also implored private hospitals to admit and treat COVID-19 patients and asked them to not be hesitant in admitting pregnant women.

Karnataka on Monday reported 3,648 COVID-19 cases taking the tally to 67,420, informed the state health department.

According to a bulletin issued by the department, the state recorded 72 more deaths due to COVID-19 with the toll at 1,403 while six patients who tested positive for the infection have died due to non-COVID causes, as of Monday. There are 42,216 active cases in the state.

Karnataka BJP urges Modi govt to ban PFI, SDPI

Bengaluru, Jan 29: The Karnataka unit of BJP has urged the Centre and the State governments to ban the Popular Front of India (PFI) and the Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI), accusing them of harbouring terrorist tendencies.

Addressing a press meet, N Ravi Kumar, state general secretary of the party, alleged that there was a nexus between the Congress, the PFI and the SDPI.

“Recent reports have exposed the links between the PFI and the Congress,” he said, accusing Congress leader Kapil Sibal of receiving huge funds from PFI to defend their cases in the Supreme Court.

He also accused the organisations as the ones responsible for the death of 23 Hindu activists in Karnataka. Such incidents have proven that both SDPI and PFI are dubious organisations, he said.
