Bhandary, Shenoy win Under 16 State Chess Championship

Mangalore, June 20: Aneeshcharith Bhandary, a student of BRMP School, Bantwal and Reesha Shenoy, a student of Carmel English school, Mangalore, have won the titles in Karnataka State Under 16 Boys and Girls Chess Championship respectively.

The two day championship was organised by Karnataka State Chess Association (Affiliated to Chess Association of India) in association with Sri Dhavala College, Moodbidri.

In Boys section, Aneeshacharith scored unbeaten 7 points in as many rounds to claim the honour. Arjun Adappa (Lourdes Cenrtral School, Mangalore) scored 5 points to bag the runner up with superior tiebreak score over 5 more players with same points. Sourav M Boloor (Canara Urwa, Mangalore) stood 3rd with 5 points.

In Girls section, Reesha Shenoy scored unbeaten 4.5 points in 5 rounds to win the championship. Mahima Khandige (St Agnes Girls High School, Mangalore) scored unbeaten 4 points to secure runner up. Prerna Rai (Lourdes central school) was placed 3rd with 3.5 points.

Top two players in each category will represent Karnataka in the CAI Rated National Under 16 Chess Championship to be held at Maharashtra.

Prizes were distributed by Abhayachandra Jain, Chief Whip of the Opposition in the State Legislative Assembly and Mulky-Moodbidri MLA. Deric Pinto, President, Karnataka State Chess Association, Prof. Ravish Kumar, Principal, Sri Dhavala College, Moodbidri, Prasanna Rao, Joint secretary, Chess association of India, Shanthiraj Kambli, Physical Education Director, Sri Dhavala College, Moodbidri, Sri Praveen Kamath, Chief Arbiter were also present on the dais.

Bengaluru, Mar 5: Flipkart co-founder Sachin Bansal's wife Priya Bansal has filed a dowry harassment case against the entrepreneur at Kormangala police station in Bengaluru, sources said.

Priya alleged that ahead of their wedding, her father had spent Rs 50 lakh for the arrangements and given Rs 11 lakh in cash to Sachin instead of a car. Further, she has also alleged that Sachin has been pressurising her to transfer all the properties that were in her name to him. However, after refusing to do so her in-laws started harassing her.

A First Information Report (FIR) has been filed against Sachin and three others at Kormangala police station in Bengaluru.

The police are investigating the matter.

Kasaragod, Jun 10: Indian Union Muslim League leader Metro Muhammad Haji passed away at a private hospital in Kozhikode today. He was 70.

He was a well known social and political activist in Kasaragod district. He has served in the social, cultural, philanthropic and educational fields.

He was the Executive Committee Member of the Muslim League. He also served as the Kerala State Vice President of the Sunni Youth Union, and President of the Kanhangad Samyukta Jamaat.

He is survived by his wife Zuhra and children Mujeeb, Jaleel, Shameem, Khaleel, Kabeer, Suhaila and Jusaila.

New Delhi, Jul 7: Congress leader Dinesh Gundu Rao's wife Tabu Gundu Rao informed that four of their employees have tested positive for coronavirus.

"Well sadly our PA, one more Gunman and 2 house staff tested positive. We are all thankfully negative but in isolation and quarantine for 10 to 14 days from today, to check if we develop symptoms as we are primary contacts to them. Hopefully we should get through this," Tabu tweeted.

According to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, there are 23,474 coronavirus cases in Karnataka including 13,255 and 372 deaths.
