Dist BJP women's wing demands swift implementation of Jan Lokpal Bill

Mangalore, June 24: The members of Dakshina Kannada BJP Mahila Morcha staged a demonstration in front of Deputy Commissioner's office on Friday demanding speedy implementation of the Jan Lokpal Bill and shouted slogans against the Congress led UPA government.


Addressing the protesters Sumana Sharan, General Secretary of Morcha urged the Centre to take steps to bring back black money stashed in foreign banks by corrupt politicians and wealthy persons.

Lokpal Bill is the most effective way to eradicate corruption. Therefore, it should be implemented at the earliest she said adding that prime minister should be under purview of Lokpal.


“The UPA government has been indulged in anti-democratic acts since long back. Now the common man has understood the ill-intentions of the UPA government. Scams, which are continuously taking place, are not only acting as obstacles in the country's growth but also giving a bad picture of the nation,” she said.

The protesters also submitted a memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner.


BJP district President Padmanabha Kottary, Deputy Mayor Geetha Nayak, Corporator Shantha, Shashiprabha, Asha, Sushma Janardan, Kasthuri Sandhya, Chandra Kala and others were present.

In udupi

Activists of Udupi District BJP Mahila Morcha held a protest dharna near Service Bus Stand here on Friday to protest against the proposed hike in the prices of petroleum products.

President of Udupi District BJP Mahila Morcha Reshma Udaya Shetty said that the proposed hike in the prices of petroleum products like petrol, diesel, kerosene and domestic LGP would make common man's life would become miserable.

She also took the UPA government to task for the ill treatment meted out to Baba Ramdev and his followers who were on a indefinite hunger strike, demanding laws and action to make India a corruption free country.

BJP District President Uday Kumar Shetty, Udupi CMC vice President Bharathi Chandrashekhar, party leaders Somashekhara Bhat, Sheela K Shetty, Mattar Rathnakar Hegde and others participated in the protest rally.

Mangaluru, Jan 2: Shwetha Rasquinha, Assistant Professor and Head of the Department of Social Work, St Aloysius College, Mangaluru, has been awarded Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree by the Mangalore University for her thesis titled “Effectiveness of Social work intervention on caretakers of cancer patients- A social work study in Mangalore”.

She did her studies under the guidance of Dr Rameela Shekhar, Professor (Rtd), School of Social work, Roshni Nilaya, Mangaluru.

Ms Shwetha Rasquinha hails from Vittal, D/o Vincent Rasquinha and Late Regina Rasquinha, and is the second person to complete doctoral studies from the Vittal Parish.

Her colleagues and well-wishers have congratulated her for her highest achievement in academics and successful completion of quality research.

Bengaluru, May 5: Karnataka Education Minister, S Suresh Kumar on Monday announced that the SSLC exams will be held as soon as possible, the officials have been asked to be prepared.

The guidelines have been given by the Primary Education Minister to all Deputy Directors of Education departments.

"Sanitisers, masks, screening, and all guidelines will be followed at exam halls," said Kumar in a statement.

Meanwhile, Karnataka has reported 651 COVID-19 positive cases so far, said State Health Department said on Monday.

Udupi, May 29: As many as 15 fresh coronavirus positive cases were reported in Udupi district today. 

11 among the new 15 covid-19 patients are males and four are females. The patients also include two children aged 6 and 7.

All of them are said to be Maharashtra returnees. 

With this, the total confirmed covid-19 cases in the district mounted to 164.
