Mangalore, July 5: A hotel management student in the city has been cheated to the tune of Rs 16.40 lakh in an electronic fraud perpetrated on him by some unidentifed persons who operated using a fake address of Yamunanagar in Haryana. According to a complaint lodged by Francis D'Souza of Surathkal with Surathkal police, his nephew Hubert D'Souza lost the amount after he responded to a message received on his mobile phone last month.

Ramesh Hanapur, PSI, Surathkal police station, who visited Yamunanagar based on the complaint said the name and address of the person that Hubert corresponded with was found to be false. The fraudster(s) had set up base in a remote village in Yamunanagar in a rented house, he said, adding that the company that Hubert remitted money to existed only on paper. "We have some leads on the fraudsters based on their PAN card," he noted.

Relatives of Hubert had deposited amount in Canara Bank at Surathkal to enable him pursue his studies as he had lost both his parents. Hubert was informed that he had won $4.5 lakh in 'ICC World Cup Fortune Programme.' Hubert who exchanged e-mails based on the message he received on his cell phone remitted various amounts to Goodluck Enterprises, Haryana, R K Lal, Akhilesh Kumar, H Preet Singh and M/s Preet Enterprises.

Hubert was told that the prize amount would be sent to him within a day if he remitted Rs 1.5 lakh as final payment towards tax liabilities. As Hubert had spent the money he already had, he asked for financial help from relatives. This is when relatives got wind of the scam. But the damage had been done and the fraudsters had withdrawn the money that Hubert had deposited in the account number mentioned in the communication, Ramesh said.

Bhopal, Mar 7: Independent MLA Surendra Singh Shera on Saturday said that he was not in any kind of captivity in Bengaluru and he will meet Chief Minister Kamal Nath soon.

"I was in Bengaluru for my daughter's medical treatment. I was not in any kind of captivity. I will meet CM Kamal Nath soon," Shera told reporters here upon returning to Bhopal from Bengaluru.

Earlier, Rajya Sabha MP and senior Congress leader Digvijaya Singh alleged that the BJP had escorted four Madhya Pradesh MLAs, including three from his party, to Bengaluru.

"Last night, two charter planes were booked by BJP to take MLAs to Bengaluru. One was a 9-seater plane while the other was 12-seater. In the 12-seater plane, four MLAs were taken to Bengaluru. Out of them, three Congress MLAs Bisahulal Singh, Raghuraj Kansana and Hardeep Dang and one Independent MLA Surendra Singh Shera," Singh had said.

He has accused BJP of resorting to horse-trading in order to bring down the Kamal Nath government.

Amidst heightened border tensions between Indian and China, senior BJP leader and Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan's two year old tweet comparing his party with Communist Party of China started going viral.

The tweet, dated 26 June, 2016 reads: "Communist Party of China & BJP have done numerous works in social field. This way, there is tremendous similarities between the two parties." (sic)

Twitterati dug up this tweet after over 20 Indian Army personnel, including a colonel, were killed in a clash with Chinese troops in the Galwan Valley in eastern Ladakh earlier this week.

Soon after Chouhan's tweet went viral, netizens took to the micro-blogging site and slammed BJP. One user said, "Interesting comment by Hindutva ITSELF to recognise how similar they are with China. No doubt. Both believe in Dragon Throne .... and brutal absolute control." Another user said, "No wonder the BJP & China both agree that PLA never crossed into Indian territory."

Mangaluru, May 31: Karnataka BJP president MP Nalin Kumar Kateel has claimed that there has been no differences of opinion within the state BJP.

"The BJP-led government will complete its term under the leadership of B S Yediyurappa," Kateel told media persons in the city on Saturday.

“A few MLAs had met and discussed the developments in North Karnataka. There is nothing wrong in discussing development keeping in mind the party's interests.”

Indiscipline within the party will not be tolerated. Strict action will be initiated against those who indulge in such activities by the party High Command, he warned.

The government, led by Yediyurappa, has carried out good works in the state. All the MLAs are supporting the chief minister. All the MLAs are in contact with me, claimed Kateel.
