Mangalore, July 6: Now, Mangaloreans will have their own unique identity number as the enrollment for biometric unique identity (UID) card, an initiative of the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI), was launched here on Wednesday at Mangalore Head Post office at Pandeshwar here in the first phase by Additional Deputy Commissioner Prabhakar Sharma.

Mr Sharma launched the scheme by handing over acknowledgement slip of UID to Ln JK Rao, District Governor of Lions Club.

Speaking on the occasion, Sharma suggested the officers of Postal department to take much care while entering data of individuals. The much ambitious UID project will be helpful for the development, security concerns and integrity of the country, he added.

Senior Superintendent of Mangalore Postal Division TG Nayak said that the service will be extended to Kulashekhar, Kankanady and Ullal in the second phase, and in the third phase, the service will be available at Hampankatta, Kodialbail, Kankanady and Bejai.

Further, it will be extended to Ashoknagar, Panambur, Surathkal, Mulky, Haleyangady, Kinnigoli, Bajpe, Carstreet, Katipalla, Munkur and Gunjimutt, he said.

Explaining the purpose and issuance of UID, Mr Nayak said that the UID scheme aimed at issuing a random 10-digit alphanumeric identity number to every Indian citizen. This identification number will be stored in a centralized database and linked to the basic demographic and biometric details of the holder.

Every individual interested in getting a UID card can collect the application form from post office.

The applicant will have to present address proof, identity proof (passport, PAN card, driving licence, ration card, voter-ID card). The verifier will check the documents. This will be followed by iris (eye ball) scanning and fingerprints of all 10 fingers. Then these details would be matched the details of the already enrolled UID holders via centralized server and after de-duplication (process of confirming that the same person does not get two UID cards) the applicant will get his UID card delivered at his address. The card is being issued free of cost as per the Union government notifications.

Bengaluru, Mar 15: All 21 Madhya Pradesh MLAs from Jyotiraditya Scindia's camp, who were lodged here at Prestige Golfshire Club, have been shifted to Ramada hotel in Yelahanka ahead of Monday's floor test in the state assembly.

In view of their arrival, the concerned authorities have strengthened security outside the hotel.

Following the exit of Scindia from Congress, these MLAs claimed to have resigned from the state Legislative Assembly.

On March 11, Congress sent two of its leaders -- Sajjan Singh Verma and Govind Singh -- to Bengaluru in order to pacify some of these rebel MLAs.

Most of the rebel MLAs are perceived close to Scindia and were apparently unhappy at Scindia being "ignored" in the party.
Meanwhile, Madhya Pradesh Congress MLAs, who arrived in Bhopal from Jaipur today morning ahead of the floor test in the Assembly on Monday, have been shifted to Courtyard by Marriott Hotel.

These MLAs were accompanied by senior Congress leader Harish Rawat, who exuded confidence of Kamal-Nath led government winning floor test in the Assembly.

Both Congress and BJP have issued whips to all its MLAs for the legislative assembly session in Madhya Pradesh, which is scheduled to be held from March 16 to April 13.

On Saturday, Madhya Pradesh Governor Lalji Tandon had directed that a floor test will be held in the assembly on Monday.
