KCCI holds seminar on entrepreneurship for women

Mangalore, July 7: A seminar on women entrepreneurship was inaugurated on Thursday at the premises of Kanara Chamber of Commerce and Industry here under the aegis of KCCI and the Corporation Bank.

Ramnath Pradeep, Chairman and Managing Director, Corporation Bank, HO, Mangalore inaugurated the programme.

According to the organisers, the aim of the seminar titled “Stride 2011: women entrepreneurship — opportunities for women in service and trading enterprises”, is to encourage women entrepreneurs.

While explaining about the significance of the topic, B N Shenoy, General Manager of the Corporation Bank, said the bank offered loans to women entrepreneurs in the small enterprises sector. It would offer loan-linked savings bank account designed for working women.

Madhura Chatrapathy, founder of the Bangalore-based Association of Women Entrepreneurs of Karnataka, Sridharan from Asian Centre for Entrepreneurial Initiatives and Sunanda Eswaran, Dean, Entrepreneurship and Research, WE School, Bangalore were the resources persons for the seminar.

G G Mohandas Prabhu, president of the KCCI and Latha R Kini, Vice President were present among others.

Mangaluru, Jan 20: A teenage girl drowned after a boat in which she was traveling in capsized in the river Netravati at Uliya Hoige, Ullal, police said on Monday.

Meanwhile, four other girls who were also traveling on the same boat were rescued by the locals, the police added. The mishap happened on Sunday.

The deceased has been identified as 18-year-old Renita, a resident of Miyapadavu.

Udupi, Feb 29: Senior Congress leader and Udupi’s crackers trader K Krishnaraja Saralaya allegedly committed suicide by jumping into a well outside his house at Paniyadi on Saturday.

He was 87, Krishnaraja was leading a solitary life. It is suspected that he ended his life ''due to mental agony''.

He is survived by two daughters. One is settled in Australia another is in Bengaluru. Saralaya had also served as President of Udupi Town Co-operative Society. The police visited the spot .

Bengaluru, May 12: Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa had promised to extend all co-operation for the safe and early return of the Karnataka ex-pats, living in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), here on Tuesday.

He was speaking to the Karnataka ex-pats living in UAE, who had pleaded the chief minister to make arrangements for their return to the state.

Those who had spoken to the Chief Minister had informed that there is a large number of people, landed into a great difficulty ever since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic and eager to return to their home state, Karnataka.
