Heavy traffic disruption caused on NH-66

Ullal, July 8: Traffic on the National Highway-66, connecting Kerala and Karnataka, was disrupted for nearly three hours due to a laterite stone lorry which has broken down on a Nethravathi bridge on Thursday at 3.30 pm.

The lorry got stuck in the middle of the bridge when two of its tires punctured causing one way movement for the commuters.

The heavy density of vehicles in the evening compelled to stay in the queue from Mangalore to Ekkur and from Talapady to Kolya.

Ullal police and Mangalore rural police assisted the vehicles and public for the smooth movement. Two-way traffic resumed after 6.30 pm.

Mangaluru: Youth dies in lift accident at wedding hall

Mangaluru, Mar 1: A youth lost his life in a lift crash at a wedding hall at Kallapu near Thokkottu on the outskirts of the city today.

The deceased has been identified as Hamzah (30), a resident near Thumbay, who was part of the catering team hired for the marriage ceremony.

The tragedy occurred at around 2 p.m. when Hamzah was getting ready to bring utensils and other things by lift from the third floor of the hall. All of a sudden, the lift’s ropes came loose and Hamzah lost his balance and got trapped inside.

He was pulled out and rushed to a hospital in Deralakatte, but he breathed his last on the way. He is survived by his wife and three children.

Mangaluru: Two from Karkala test positive for covid-19

Mangaluru, May 12: Two people hailing from Udupi district tested positive for covid-19 today. The sources of this infection is said to be Mangaluru's First Neuro Hospital.

Fresh bulletin from health and family welfare department revealed that a 52-year-old woman and a 26-year-old man from Karkala in Udupi were tested positive for the deadly coronavirus.

Among them, the woman had undergone treatment at the First Neuro Hospital. She is said to have contracted the infection from P-507 who was also was tested positive April 27. And the youth was in touch with the woman.

The duo have not visited their home in Karkala for past few days. They were in quarantine and tested positive while being admitted at the same hospital.

With this the total number of COVID-19 cases found in Dakshina Kannada district are 33 now. Three among them have died and 14 have been discharged. Now, the district has 16 active coronavirus cases.

'Extension not for Work From Home for employees of IT industry'

Bengaluru, Apr 29: Union Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad on Tuesday clarified that Department of Telecommunications has extended the relaxed terms and conditions for VPN till July 31.

"Wish to clarify that it is not extension of WFH. In response to IT Industry's request to facilitate WFH for OSPs, Department of Telecommunications, India had relaxed terms and conditions for VPN till April 30 After discussions with IT Ministers this relaxation in terms and conditions is extended till July 31," Prasad Tweeted quoting Deputy Chief Minister of Karnataka Dr Ashwath Narayan.

Earlier, the Karnataka government issued a press statement saying that the central government has given permission to IT professionals to work from home till July 31 in the view of COVID-19 pandemic.
