Manipal Arogya Card Scheme-2011 launched

Mangalore, July 9: Manipal Arogya Card has completed 10 years of its services to the community, this is the 11th year. The annual scheme is Manipal University's social initiative to provide quality health care at affordable cost to large section of society. The membership is open from June 11 to July 31, 2011.

Manipal Arogya Card enables a member to avail large benefits by way of discounts on in-patient and out-patient treatment in various networked hospitals under Manipal Health Enterprises.

Briefing the media persons about the benefits of the scheme, Dr Anand Venugopal, Deputy Medical Superintendent, KMC Hospital, Ambedkar Circle, said the scheme could be any one by paying a membership fee of Rs 250 for an individual and Rs 500 for a family including children below 21.

“Anybody can obtain membership and receive the investment back as concessions in only two or three usages of the card,” he said.

As per the scheme, an add-on card is also available for parents who have primary card under the family card scheme for Rs 100/- per parent. For renewal card, 10 per cent discount on membership fee is offered.

Mr Venugopal said the consultation with any specialist or super specialist doctors, any number of times, during the year by paying only 50 per cent of the consultation fee is most attractive benefit for out-patients.

“20 per cent discount on diagnostics and laboratory investigations give considerable relief to patients. There is a 10 per cent rebate on medicines purchased from hospital pharmacy with prescriptions. There is a flat 25 per cent concession on the patient bill (excluding consumables) for any number of times during the year and 10 per cent concession on medicines purchased from pharmacy,” he explained.

Applications for the scheme is available at all networked hospitals under Manipal Health Enterprises and Syndicate Bank branches of Mangalore, Udupi, Shimoga, Uttara Kannada, Davangere, Chitradurga, Chikmaglur, Kodagu and in North Kerala-Kannur and Kasargod districts.

Dr M V Prabhu, Associate Dean, KMC Mangalore, Dr Madhusudan Upadya and Deputy Medical Superintendent, KMC Hospital Attavar were also present.

Bengaluru, Apr 2: About 1,500 people from Karnataka might have attended the Tablighi Jamaat event in Nizamuddin in the national capital between March 8 to 20. Of these, the State has been able to trace 800 people.
 
Of the 800 persons, 143 people have been found to be symptomatic.
 
Mr Jawaid Akhtar, Additional Chief Secretary (Health and Family Welfare), in a statement here on Thursday said that the Centre had sent the list of 1,500 people to the State.
 
“We cannot say if all these have attended the congregation. Some of them may have attended and some may be the contacts of those who have attended. We have been able to trace 800 from the list and samples of 143 symptomatic persons have been sent for tests."

Bengaluru, Jul 6: Karnataka government has revised quarantine norms according to which those entering the State from other states, including from Maharashtra, shall be placed in 14-days home quarantine.

Until now, the state government had issued that those returning from Maharashtra are to be placed under 7-day institutional quarantine followed by 7-day home quarantine.

A fresh state government order with the subject line "Regulation of movement of persons from other States to Karnataka" reads: "Whereas the State Government vide Order dated June 30, issued unlock 2 guidelines which permit reopening of more activities in a calibrated manner, in areas outside the Containment Zones, and to extend lockdown in Containment Zone upto July 31. The guidelines also permit unrestricted interstate movement of persons and goods adhering to the SOPs/ Guidelines issued by the Department of Health and Family Welfare and Department of Revenue (Disaster Management)".

Whereas, the Department of Health and Family Welfare issued revised SOP for the moment of persons from other State to Karnataka vide document dated June 8, this year, further, quarantine norms were modified vide Orders of even number dated June 15 and June 26.

"The quarantine norms are regularly reviewed and calibrated with the prevailing Unlock 2 guidelines and infusion of technology and community involvement to enforce the strict home quarantine. In light of the above, the quarantine norms issued vide Order dated June 26, has been further modified and is follows--Persons coming from other State to Karnataka, including Maharashtra shall be placed in 14-days Home Quarantine," the order read.

"The other conditions as specified in the Order dated June 15 and aforementioned SOP enclosed issued on June 8 by the Department of Health and Family Welfare shall continue to be in force until further orders," it added.

New Delhi, Mar 30: Congress MP Rajmohan Unnithan on Monday approached the Supreme Court seeking directions to open the Karnataka-Kerala border to allow movement of ambulances and other emergency vehicles for the transport of essential items to Kerala.

Unnithan, who is an MP From Kerala's Kasaragod constituency, filed a plea seeking direction to Karnataka to open the borders with Kerala and in particular Kasargod-Mangalore border at Talappadi.

The petition sought directions to Karnataka to allow the movement of ambulances, emergency vehicles, trucks and other vehicles carrying essential and non-essential items to Kerala. It also sought to stay the blockade imposed by Karnataka with its border states.

The plea also sought directions to Karnataka to register an FIR and constitute a special investigation team (SIT) under the supervision of this court to enquire against the concerned authorities including the police officials whose action led to the death of two citizens.

It said that the imposition of such a blockade at a time when the supply of commodities is itself hit hard and when a medical emergency has plagued the entire country is a clear violation of Articles 21 and 19(d) of the Constitution.

"This blockade has also resulted in cutting off the essential lifeline of National Highways and State Highways and major District Roads leading to the State of Kerala which has resulted in the shortage of supply of essential and non-essential items to the State of Kerala leading to shortage supply of food and medical supplies," the plea said.

"This ill-planned and dangerous blockade has claimed the life of a 70-year-old woman who was denied entry into Karnataka even for the purpose of urgent medical treatment which was only available in the medical hub of Mangalore. This is a clear case of violation of the right to life with dignity by the state as citizens are made to die on the roads because of the action of the state which is in total disregard to Article 21," it added.

This comes as the country is under a 21-day lockdown to prevent the spread of coronavirus, which according to the Ministry of Health and Family Affairs has claimed the lives of 29 people and infected a total of 1071 people as on Monday morning.
