Foundation stone for 'Vaartha Bhavan' laid in Udupi

Udupi, July 10: Minister for Religious Endowment Dr VS Acharya said that Chief Minister BS Yedyurappa, on Friday has signed the documents making way for the formation of a Rajya Dharmika Parishath.

During his maiden press meet at the newly built Pathrika Bhavana, at Nairkere, Ajjarkad, here on Sunday, Minister also laid the foundation stone for the Vaartha Bhavan to be built adjacent to Patrika Bhavana, at a cost of Rs 50 lakhs.

He said that a few of the sections of Common Religious Endowment Act had been challenged in the Supreme Court, questioning government's authority to make appointments to Temple Administrative Committees. SC had directed the government to make amendments to the Karnataka Religious and Charitable Institutions Act, which were made accordingly and had been sent to Governor for his ascent.

“Government has also been asked to form State Religious Council and CM signed the documents forming the Religious Council on Friday”, he added.

The eight member council will have dharmadarshis of different temples, Minister for Religious Endowment and also its government secretary. This Council will have powers to appoint the administrative body to all the state level temples coming under the government. In the second stage district level Religious Council will be formed comprising district judge, agama shasthra experts, representatives from SC/ST, backward classes.

Bengaluru, Jan 9: Primary and Secondary Education Minister S Suresh Kumar on Thursday said that the Education Department would launch a helpline by March 2020 to address the complaints.

Speaking to reporters here, he said, the helpline is not only for children but also for teachers.

"Entire department including teachers and parents can make use of the opportunity”, the minister said.

“The helpline can be called for any complaint related to the Education Department. Our objective is to resolve problems within a stipulated time,” the Minister said.

Mangaluru, Jul 15: A septuagenarian from Bantwal taluk died due to coronavirus infection at a hospital in the city taking the covid-19 death toll in Dakshina Kannada to 54.

The deceased was a 73-years-old and a resident of Kasaba village in Vittal, Bantwal. Recently eight members of his family were tested positive for covid-19 including his son.

He was admitted to a hospital in Mangaluru where he was tested positive for the virus. He did not respond to the treatment and breathed his last, sources said.

The final rites were carried out by a team of trained activists of Popular Front of India (PFI) at a designated graveyard. All necessary precautions were taken by the authorities concerned and police during the funeral.

Madikeri, Jun 5: Karnataka Minister for Revenue R Ashok said a Rs 10 crore grant would be released shortly for construction of a permanent building for 'Relief Centre' in Kodagu district which is vulnerable to floods because of its hilly landscape.

According to an official release here on Friday, the Minister symbolically handed over the newly built houses to flood victims in Jambur in Somwarpet on Thursday evening.

He said that whenever the 'Relief Centre' is vacant it will be used for government meetings.
