Stan Ageira chosen for Konkani Kuttam award

Mangalore, July 15: Senior Konkani writer Stan Ageira has been chosen for Konkani Kuttam award being conferred by Konkani Kuttam, a Bahrain based voluntary forum for promoting Konkani language, literature and culture.

Addressing a press meet here on Friday, Konkani Kuttam convener Richard Moras said that the award ceremony would be held on July 23 at St Sebastian Platinum jubilee hall in Bendore at 7 pm.

He said that the Konkani Kuttam, in its endeavour to encourage and support Konkani writers and artists, has introduced the award. The award consists of a citation, memento and a cash of Rs 50,000.

He said that Konkani Kuttam chose Stan Ageira for the award after analysing and evaluating his significant contribution to Konkani cause.

Konkani and Kannada writer Rev Fr Prashanth Madtha will preside over the programme while Konkani Writer Edwin J F D'Souza will be the chief guest.


About Stan Ageira

Born in 1961, Stan Ageira is well known in the field of Konkani literature. His first short story was published in 1975 when he was barely 14 and as on date he has written over 250 short stories and 18 novels in Konkani. His father late Sgt. Ligoury Ageira had served the Indian Airforce for 35 years. Stan was born and brought up in Mulki with primary education was completed in Bethany convent, high school from Government Junior College, B.Com from Mysore University and MBA from IBAM New Delhi. He began his professional career in sales with Godrej Soaps Mumbai Branch in the early eighties before moving to Dubai in Ninetees. Presently he is working and living in Dubai with his wife Yvonne and kids Sean & Elton.

He has been recognized and presented with an award by the Konkani Bhasha Mandal, Goa and Konkani Sahitya Academy, Karnataka for his novels. He has published work to his credit in Konkani, Kannada and English.

His collection of short stories in Konkani 'Tambdi Mirsaang' published in 2006 was selected recently for the Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy Award. His short stories have been published in magazines like 'Women's Era' and 'Alive' which are being published from New Delhi.

Kalaburagi, Feb 20: All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) leader Waris Pathan on Wednesday said that 15 crore Muslims can dominate 100 crore Hindus.

"The time has now come for us to unite and achieve freedom. Remember we are 15 crore but can dominate over 100 crores," said Pathan while addressing an anti-CAA rally here.

"They tell us that we have kept our women in the front - only the lionesses have come out and you are already sweating. You can understand what would happen if all of us come together," he said.

The CAA grants citizenship to Hindu, Sikh, Jain, Parsi, Buddhist, and Christian refugees from Pakistan, Afghanistan, and Bangladesh, who came to India on or before December 31, 2014.

Protests have erupted across the country against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), the National Register of Citizens (NRC) and the National Population Register (NPR).

Bhopal, Mar 11: After meeting with 19 party MLAs who have tendered their resignations, Congress leader Sajjan Singh Verma on Wednesday said they are neither willing to support Jyotiraditya Scindia nor in favour of joining BJP as they were "misled and taken to Bengaluru" in Karnataka.

"Nobody is ready to go with Scindia ji. They said they were misled and taken to Bengaluru, most of them said they are not ready to join BJP," Verma told media persons on being asked about the 19 MLAs.

"I just came from Bengaluru and now I am going to Jaipur. Besides 5-6 ministers and one MLA, we all are going to Jaipur. They (MLAs) have said they have the blood of Congress and they will remain in the party. 
Since Scindia was a senior party leader, all our MLAs followed his order as a courtesy," he said.

The Congress leader further claimed that BJP is using both "muscle and money power" to influence Congress MLAs.

He also claimed that he is strongly in contact with 7-8 BJP MLAs.

On Tuesday, Congress sent two of its leaders -- Verma and Govind Singh -- to Bengaluru in order to pacify some of the rebel MLAs who are lodged in a hotel there and who claimed to have resigned from the state Legislative Assembly.

Most of the rebel MLAs are perceived close to Scindia and are apparently unhappy at Scindia being "ignored" in the party. The grand old party has been witnessing an internal turf war in Madhya Pradesh since the party formed the government in the state in 2018.

Scindia is likely to join BJP later today.

Udupi, Aug 6: Three people including police personnel entered a well and rescued an elderly woman who had accidentally fallen into Udupi on Thursday.

A police sub-inspector and two others got down into a well and rescued the elderly woman, who accidentally fell into well at near her home at Kukkikatte.

The locals immediately alerted to police and fire and rescue personal.

Udupi town police sub-inspector Sadashiva Govroji, fire and rescue staff Vinayaka and a local Auto-driver Rajesh Nayak got into the well and brought the woman out safely.
