Chittara' honours winners of state level essay contest

Mangalore, July 19: 'Chittara' a group of youth, distributed the prizes for the winners of State level article writing competition on the topic “Yuva Bharatha, Yuva Janara Baduku Bhavishya” (Young India, Life and Future of Youth) at Hotel Woodlands here recently.

Dr Naveen Kulamarva of Kasargod received first prize in the competition. The second and third prizes were bagged by Uma Devi of Vitla and Latheef S Kunibavi of Belgaum.

The winners received a memento, certificate and a cash prize of Rs 3,000, Rs 2,000 and Rs 1,000 respectively.

Besides, the organizers selected six persons including Chandrvathi Rai, Lawrence D'Souza, Santhosh Ananthady, Narayana Rai Kukkuvalli, Padma Kulkarni and Diwakar for special awards.

Five students belonging to Koraga community were given scholarships.

In his presidential address, DK District Kannada Sahithya Parishad President Pradeep Kumar Kalkura said present generation youth lack self-confidence and they have developed lethargic attitude. Hence, there is a need to instill self confidence among them for a healthy society.

PB Hariprasad Rai, President of DK District Journalists' Union, Krishna Moolya, Director of Janashikshana Trust, Santhosh Shetty, Insurance Development Officer, E Fernandes, Four Winds Director were among those present.

Bengaluru, Mar 23: Following the alarming increase in Coronavirus cases, Police Commissioner Bhaskar Rao on Monday said that those subjected to home quarantine stamping would be arrested if they were found to visit public places.

"5,000 Home quarantine stamping was carried to ensure that they remain in home and not to be seen in public places for their own interest as well as in an attempt to prevent spread of Coronavirus", he tweeted.

"I have received information on some of those stamped are moving in BMTC (Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation) buses and sitting in restaurants. Please call 100, these people will be picked up, arrested and sent to government quarantine," Rao said.

Chitradurga, Feb 10: President of the BJP State unit Nalin Kumar Kateel on Sunday hit out at Congress leader M. Mallikarjun Kharge for allegedly likening Prime Minister Narendra Modi to a “zero candle bulb”.

Mr. Kateel told reporters here that Mr. Modi was a “1,000 watt bulb that gave light to the world”, and compared Mr. Kharge to a lamp that had burned out politically.

Mr. Kateel charged that Mr. Kharge had become frustrated after losing the elections and after his party did not even consider him for a Rajya Sabha seat. And this had made the Congress leader to make wild charges against the Prime Minister.

Lashing out at the Congress, Mr. Kateel alleged that the Congress was continuing the “divide and rule” policy of the British and accused the former Prime Minister H.D. Deve Gowda of being the “other face of the Congress”.

Mr. Kateel also came down on the former Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. He ridiculed the Congress for the delay in choosing a new KPCC chief after Dinesh Gundu Rao submitted his resignation.

Udupi, Jan 22: Writer Richie John Pais will be conferred with the Best Konkani Book Award, instituted by Dr T M A Foundation in recognition of his contribution made to Konkani Language and Literature.

According to a statement, the Award carries Rs 10,000 in cash and a citation.

‘Fathor’, a collection of Konkani short stories authored by Richie John Pais was published in 2017 has been chosen for the Dr TMA Foundation Best Konkani Book Award 2018.
