15th independence cup football: Sacred Heart, Morning Star girls emerge champions

Mangalore, July 19: The Sacred Heart and Morning Star teams on Tuesday emerged champions of champions of 15th Independence Cup Football tournament under High School Girls and Higher Primary Girls categories.

Sacred Heart team beat Joyland team in tie breaker 5-4, while Morning Star team defeated Lourds Central School 2-0 in their respective final matches.

The tournament is being organised under the aegis of Dakshina Kannada district Football Association at Football Ground adjacent to Nehru Maidan here.

Higher Primary Boys results

1. Badriya 'A' beat Cambridge 2-0.

2. Hazrath Sayyed Madani beat Rosario 1-0.

3. NITK beat St. Aloysius 'B' (tie breaker) 3-2.

4. Sri Ram Kalladka beat Lourds1-0.

5. Joyland beat Badriya 'B' 3-0.

6. Morning Star beat Milagres 1-0.

Quarter Finals results

1. Bharath English Medium School beat NITK 2-0.

2. Badriya 'A' beat Hazrath Sayyed Madani 1-0.

3. Sri Ram Kalladka beat Joyland (tie breaker) 5-4

4. Morning Star Bajpe beat St. Aloysius 1-0

Semifinals

Bharath English Medium School will face Badriya and Sri Ram School Kalladaka will face Star Bajpe in two semifinal matches to be held on Wednesday.

Mangaluru, Jan 17: An auto-mobile shop at Deralakatte here caught fire on Friday incurring huge loss on the shopkeeper.

According to police, the incident happened in the morning when the shop owner opened the shop.

Locals suspect that miscreants might have set the shop on fire and had escaped from the scene at night.

Bengaluru, Mar 13: Upset over her husband’s insistence that expenses for her heart ailment be borne by her parents, a 26-year-old homemaker hanged herself at her residence in Manjunatha Nagar, near RT Nagar, on Tuesday midnight.

RT Nagar police said Lakshmi Sharma was also being harassed by her husband Dharmananda Sharma to divorce him. Dharmananda, his father Krishnakumar and mother Sharavati were arrested on Wednesday and remanded in judicial custody.

An investigating officer said Lakshmi had left a suicide note explaining the torture she underwent.

Udupi, Jun 20: Movement of heavy vehicles on Agumbe Ghat section was banned till October 15, following heavy rain lashing due to onset of South West Monsoon.

The Agumbe Ghat connects Shivamogga with the Udupi district. There is a possibility of landslides on either side of the Ghat road if movement of heavy vehicles is allowed during the monsoon, said Udupi DC G Jagadeesh in statement issued here on Saturday.

The movement of all heavy vehicles above 12 tonnes has been banned on the road. Till end of monsoon all the heavy vehicles have to move via Udupi-Brahmavar-Barkur-Shankaranarayana; Siddapura-Hosangady-Hulikal Ghat-Hosanagara-Theerthahalli; Udupi-Karkala-Bajagoli-S K Border-Kerekatte-Sringeri- Shivamogga.
