Bhatkal, July 21: Inspector General of Police (Western Range) Alok Monhan clarified that no investigating team had visited Bhatkal in connection with recent serial bomb blasts in Mumbai.

The IGP was responding the queries of media persons after paying a visit to Bhatkal police station on Wednesday.

Recent media reports stated that a team of officials of Mumbai's Anti Terrorist Squad (ATS) had reached Bhatkal as part of Mumbai serial blasts probe.

Though officials did not confirm the reports, sources within the police department had said that one of the ATS teams, which was investigating the serial blasts case, visited Bhatkal.

A police official on condition of anonymity had said that since Indian Mujahideen is suspected to have carried out the blasts, the ATS team had visited Bhatkal, which is the hometown of Riyaz Bhatkal, the alleged founder of Indian Mujahideen.

However Mr Alok Mohan brushed aside the reports saying that no such teams had visited the town, and no one from the town had been picked up for investigation.

The IGP also said that the police department was taking appropriate steps to improve the investigative efficiency.
