Mulki, July 21: The suspended head master of the Karnadu Government High School, Jagadeesh Acharya aged 50, allegedly committed suicide by hanging on Monday.

He hanged himself with a saree, outside the Yuvaka Mandala building of the Padupanambur Grama Panchayat near here.

He had served 28 years as a high school teacher and was promoted as headmaster two years ago.

It may be mentioned here that eight of his students, with the help of their parents, had directly lodged complaint against Acharya with the concerned education officer, accusing him of sexual misconduct.

It is said that during the inquiry, Acharya had admitted the allegation made against him and given a written confession too. Following this he was suspended till the investigation was complete.

He was said to be deeply depressed after this event.

A few of his students are of the opinion that this issue was created due to the animosity that he had developed with his colleagues after he was appointed as the head master. Sources reveal that the final investigation of the case was scheduled to be held on July 30.

It can be recalled that one of his brothers, Satish Acharya had succumbed to a road accident in Haleyangadi two years ago. Another brother Prakash Acharya had also committed suicide due to illness.

Jagadish Acharya is survived by his wife and two children. His brother Karunakara Acharya has lodged a complaint at the Mulki police station.
