Mangalore, July 22: “The BJP government, which has transformed Karnataka into the most corrupt state in the country, is diverting the attention of people through provocative statements and pledging to ban progressive organizations”, said Fr William Martis, President, Udupi chapter of NCHRO.

Addressing a protest demonstration organised by Popular Front of India and other progressive organisations to protest what they called State Government's suppressive policy against Muslim organisations, in front of the office of Deputy Commissioner here on Friday evening, he said the Karnataka Government is full of thieves who are systematically looting the wealth of our state.

The demonstration comes in the backdrop of controversial statements made by the Home Minister R Ashok and Primary and Higher Education Minister Vishweshara Hegde Kageri over banning KFD and introducing Bhagavad Gita in Schools.

G Rajashekar, President of Komu Sauharda Vedike, Udupi district unit, said that Government's move to ban KFD based on the Hunsoor kidnap and murder case, reflects the prejudice of the ruling party of the state against the organisation. He said that until the court proves that the accused are guilty nobody has any right to judge.

He opined that the actions of BJP led Government reveal its internal unrest and its fear about the future.

Mohammed Riyaz, PFI leader, challenged the Government to ban the organization. “This is cheap politics played by the government which is sure to lose the next elections. Resorting to cheap tricks to please its vote bank is condemnable,” He said.

Pattabhirama Somayaji, communal harmony activist, questioned that if government allowed the organisation such as RSS which was involved in the Killing of Mahatma Gandhi to be active, how could it ban an organisation based on mere an accusation. He also criticised the Chief Minister's family trip to Mauritius, when his government was in jeopardy.

The agitators also raised voice against the corruption of the state government. A memorandum, addressed to the Governor of Karnataka H R Bhardwaj, was also handed over to Deputy Commissioner on the occasion.

Bengaluru, Jul 17: Karnataka Minister for Health and Family Welfare B Sriramulu on Thursday clarified that his remarks have been misinterpreted, wherein he apparently said that ''only God can save people from Covid''.

The Bharatiya Janata Party leader slammed KPCC President D K Shivakumar for spreading false information and said that my words were not meant to cause panic among the masses.

''Respected Shivakumar, this is a clarification regarding my words that have been misinterpreted and misunderstood.

While responding to claims of the opposition that the government’s negligence, irresponsibility and the lack of coordination among ministers are responsible for the rise in cases in the state, I stated that ‘these accusations are far from the truth. People need to be aware and cautious to avoid the spread of the virus. This plays a vital role in controlling the pandemic. If we fail at this crucial step the situation can get complicated. And if things go worse, then only God can save us'', Mr Sriramulu said in a series of posts on Twitter
