College student drowns in lake near Padubidri

Padubidri, July 23: A college student lost his life after he accidentally drowned in a lake in Yellur area near here on Friday.

The deceased has been identified as Harshith Sunder, aged 20 years, studying in final year B Com at Vijaya College in Mulki.

Sources said that Sundar accidentally slipped into Dalanthi lake, when he was going to one of his friends' house situated on the other side of the lake.

As the lake was too deep, he could not be saved by his other friends who accompanied him.

The body has been traced and sent to post mortem. A case has been registered in the Padubidri police station.

Udupli, Jun 10: A promising Kabaddi player and young businessman allegedly committed suicide inside his father’s boat today at Malpe fishing port as he had suffered heavy loss in business due to covid lockdown. 

The deceased has been identified as Bhagyaraj (27), a resident of Pavanjigudde in Badanidiyoor, Bailakere. He was working as writer for two boats owned by his father. He was a well-known Kabaddi player in Udupi district. 

It is said that he had raised a huge loan to build a house and also acquired a fishing boat. However, he suffered heavy losses in business due to lockdown. Fish famine added to his woes. 

Upset by these developments, Bhagyaraj hanged himself inside his boat that was anchored at the port. A case was registered at Malpe police station. Investigations are on.

Bengaluru, Mar 3: Senior Congress leader and Leader of Opposition in Karnataka Assembly Siddaramaiah on Tuesday said that the party's protest will continue until the Speaker will allow them to discuss BJP MLA Basanagouda Patil Yathnal's recent comments on freedom fighter HS Doreswamy.

"Our protest in the well of state assembly will continue until Speaker allows us to discuss about Basanagouda Patil Yatnal," Siddaramaiah said.

Congress MLAs staged a protest in the Karnataka Assembly and entered the well demanding BJP MLA Basanagouda Patil Yathnal's apology for his 'Pakistani agent' remark.

Earlier, Congress leaders on February 26 staged a protest on the same issue in front of Mahatma Gandhi's statue at Vidhana Soudha.

Yathnal, on February 25, called Doreswamy a fake freedom fighter and a Pakistani agent while addressing the media. His comments triggered a controversy drawing sharp remarks from Congress and other parties.

Udupi, Mar 8: The 75-year old man who was admitted to Udupi District Hospital over suspected Corona Virus infection has tested negative on Saturday.

The reports from Bengaluru Medical College’s laboratory where the samples of the person were sent, confirmed that the aged person was not infected with Corona Virus.

The report was submitted to the District Administration by the laboratory that confirmed that the person was not infected by the viral Corona Virus.
