Mangalore, July 26: The Pilikula Nisargadhama Society organised the 'Aatidonji dina' (a day in the month of 'Aati') celebrations at the 'Gutthina Mane' at Samskruthi Grama in Pilikula Biological Park for the fourth consecutive year, on Monday.

During the Aati month, farmers have less work and more time to play games such as Chenna Mane at home, Zilla Panchayat President Shailaja Bhat said after inaugurating the celebrations in the presence of Moodbidri MLA Abhaychandra and Deputy Comisioner Dr N S Chennappa Gowda.

Several women enthusiastically took part in the Chenna Mane competition, wherein the manes (a rectangular board with a specific number of sunken areas in which tamarind seeds or beads are put) are used to play the game. Those who did not know how to play the game, quickly learnt it from others. This game, which can be played by a single person, or two to three persons, is played by distributing the 'manjotti' (tamarind seeds/beads) from one sunken area among the 12 compartments in a particular order.

Enticing food

Visitors were enticed with 18 varieties of food that are specially prepared in Tulunadu. Some of them are prepared only during the Aati month.

Many of those who had prepared the items said the visitors had asked them for recipes of certain dishes such as 'pathrode', 'nurge soppuda ambade', 'arita pundit' and 'palekayida gatti'.

Bengaluru, Jul 5: In the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic and the fear of layoffs lurking everywhere, the state government is holding a first-of-its-kind virtual job fair on July 10, to help people find jobs commensurate with their skill sets.

Co-ordinated by the Karnataka Skill Development Corporation (KSDC), the job fair will see participation of more than 40 companies for about 6,000 job openings.

The government will connect companies with job seekers who have registered on the recently-launched Skill Connect portal or on the Kaushalya Karnataka’s portal for migrant workers from the state who have returned home.

A candidate can either directly apply to a company, or await the portal to match their skills with available jobs. There is also a self-evaluation section on the website which will suggest whether a candidate needs to further skill oneself or whether they are eligible for jobs with their current set of skills.

Firms such as Life Insurance Corporation, Barbeque Nation and Arvind Mills are among the participants.

Bengaluru, Jul 3: Karnataka Health Department on Thursday permitted District Health Departments to appoint doctors with MBBS, on a contractual basis with permission of concerned District Health Officers and Commissioners, a statement said.

The state government has also hiked the salary of contractual doctors from Rs 45000 to Rs 60000 per month.

Earlier in the day, Karnataka Health Minister B Sriramulu urged contract doctors to continue offering their services amid their demand for regularisation of services.

"I request the contract doctors with folded hands to continue offering their services. With regard to their two demands, one of salary hike and the other being permanency, I assure all of them that I stand with them and their requests will definitely be fulfilled," said Mr Sriramulu.

The Chief Minister had also discussed about the two issues yesterday and agreed to facilitate the pay hike, he added.
