Protesters demand dissolution of BJP Government

Mangalore, July 27: As soon as Karnatka Lokayukta submitted the much awaited report on illegal mining, indicting Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa, Reddy brothers and various others, Dakshina Kannada district unit of Social Democratic Party of India staged a protest demonstration in front of the Office of Deputy Commissioner here demanding the dissolution of the BJP led government.

Addressing the protesters, K Abdul Jaleel, DK District President of SDPI said this situation is a test for the moral level of the Bharatiya Janata Party.

“After Justice N Snatosh Hegde submitted the report running into 25,228 pages including annexures, the BJP top brass is considering the ways to overcome the situation including leadership change. But, it should be noted that not only the Chief Minister, but the entire cabinet is now accused of corruption,” he said.

“The Lokayukta report clearly mentioned the names of ministers Janardana Reddy, Karunakara Reddy, Shriramulu and V Somanna and recommended their prosecution under Prevention of Corruption Act and other laws,” Mr Jaleel said adding that dissolution of the govern is the only democratic way ahead in this juncture.

The protesters also sent a memorandum to President of India Pratibha Patil, through Deputy Commissioner Dr N SChennappa Gowda, asking her to immediately dissolve the 'most corrupt state government of the country'

Bengaluru, Jul 28: As many as 5,536 new COVID-19 cases and 102 deaths were reported in Karnataka on Tuesday, according to the State Health Department.

With these new cases of coronavirus, the total number of positive cases in the state stands at 1,07,001 including 64,434 active cases, 40,504 discharges and 2,055 deaths.

India on Tuesday reported 47,704 more COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours, taking the country's count of coronavirus cases to 14,83,157, informed the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.

Out of the total cases, there are 4,96,988 active cases in the country while the number of patients cured/discharged and migrated stands at 9,52,744. With 654 deaths due to COVID-19 in the country reported in the last 24 hours, the death toll rises to 33,425.

Bengaluru, Jul 17: Karnataka Medical Education Minister K Sudhakar held a meeting through video conference on Thursday with private and government establishments involved in testing and treatment of COVID-19 in the state.

A total of 51,422 cases including 19,729 recoveries and 1,032 deaths were reported in the state till yesterday.

On the same day, K Sudhakar also paid a surprise visit to the Bengaluru's CV Raman Hospital and urged the administration to follow COVID-19 guidelines properly. He also took stock of the hospital's preparedness to fight the deadly virus.

"Surprise visits will continue. I will be in touch with every lab and get the right number of tests done on a daily basis," the minister said while speaking to the media.

He also urged the people who have recovered from coronavirus to donate their plasma to save other lives, adding that donors will receive a reward of Rs 5,000 as a token of appreciation.

Bengaluru, Jul 10: Karnataka health minister B Sriramulu on Thursday said that the government is planning to increase number of COVID-19 testing labs and technicians in the state.

Speaking to news agency, Sriramulu said, "We have 72 labs where COVID-19 tests are conducted. They are under pressure with increased number of tests. When lab technicians are quarantined, it gets difficult to complete work. So we are considering to increase number of labs and technicians."

Speaking on the community transmission of COVID-19 in Bengaluru, he said, "The experts are already deliberating over the issue of community transmission. According to me the community spread has not taken place yet."

Meanwhile, Cabinet Minister Madhu Swamy said that the government is calling for foreign investment for which Boston Consulting Group (BCG) has been hired by the state government.

Speaking to the reporters after the Cabinet meeting, Swamy said, "We call for foreign investment in Karnataka for which we need an agency who has to coordinate, who has to bring outsiders in Karnataka to invest in the state. For that we have hired a company by name Boston consulting Group(BCG) we will be paying them Rs 1 crore for twelve months."
