Mangalore, July 27: Criticising the State Government's verification process for LPG connection, Ivan D'Souza, Secretary of KPCC, said that it was 'unpardonable offence' to make helpless women to run pillar to post to get their connection status verified within a short period of time.

Addressing the media persons at district Congress office here on Wednesday, Mr D'Souza said that Central government had generously given subsidy for LPG. It was responsible of State Government to supply the same to the people without flaws.

He said, “If the state government wanted to eliminate illegal usage of subsided LPG for the commercial purposes in the hotels and vehicles, let them ride those hotels and vehicles instead of giving mental torture to the people.”

If there were illegal connections or misfeeds in the documents it is fault of the department, he said.

Mr D'Souza pointed out that people who reside at flats couldn't get their RR numbers as their owners have already used it.

He also said that the consumers never using the subsided LPG for other purposes than cooking. “We are with the 1, 21,678 Mangaloreans, who are facing the difficulties to get their status verified,” he said.

Expressing dissatisfaction over the department officials' instruction the consumers asking to feed the documents directly to the department website, he questioned: “How many people have internet facility at home? Should people go to cyber cafes paying money?”

Novel Protest

The district congress will stage a novel protest in front of Deputy Commissioner's office demanding to revoke this 'anti-people' policy by cooking food with the firewood on Friday, said Mr D'Souza.

Memorandum

Meanwhile, Congress MLAs U T Khader and Gopal Bhandary have submitted a memorandum to State Energy and Food and Civil Supplies Minister Shobha Karandlaje seeking new rules and regulation for LPG connections. Compulsory submission of documents within short span of time causing inconvenience to the people, MLAs informed. “Government order or any scheme should help the people instead of causing problem,” they said.

Mysuru, Jan 19: Karnataka Rural Development and Panchyat Raj Minister K S Eshwarappa on Sunday claimed that Popular Front of India and Social Democratic Party of India have been indulging in anti-national activities.

Talking to media persons here, he said the government is mulling to ban and take action against PFI and its political arm SDPI.

It was recommended even during the previous government, but it was not taken seriously, he added.

He said that the BJP will ensure that all the MLAs who were instrumental in the party coming to power (the then-disqualified MLAs who joined BJP from Congress and JDS recently and won the bypoll subsequently) will not be let down and be given suitable posts in the government.

Mangaluru, May 20: The local unit of Bharatiya Janata Party has defended the delay in repatriation of coastal Kannadigas from Middle Eastern countries saying that it is impossible to bring all expatriate together at a time when covid-19 cases are continuing to spike in the region.

Addressing a press conference, Sudarshan M, president of Dakshina Kannada unit of BJP said that the entire district administration was working as a team under the leadership local MP Nalin Kumar Kateel and district minister Kota Shrinivas Poojary and seven BJP MLAs in this critical juncture.

“Without any bias, we also have reached out to the needs of people of Mangaluru assembly constituency represented by former minister and Congress MLA U T Khader,” he said, adding that his party will not forget Indian expatriates in the Gulf too.

Replying to the charge of not catering to the interests of Kannadigas stranded in the Middle East by way of arranging special flights, Sudarshan said this is part of a well-thought-out move to bring them in batches.

“It is impossible to bring back all Kannadigas stranded in Middle East all of a sudden. Their repatriation will be in phased manner based on facilities available in the district,” he said.

“The district authorities have created healthcare and quarantine facilities for a limited number, be it at Covid-19 hospital or institutional quarantine, and bringing them together will create logistical problems,” he said.
