DK Cong celebrates CM's 'disgraceful exit'

Mangalore, July 28: As soon as the news of BJP high command asking Chief Minister BS Yeddyurappa to step down in the wake of Lokayukta report submission trickled in, Congress activists in the city celebrated the 'Vijayotsav'.

The jubilant mob in front of the District Congress office located in the heart of the city burst crackers, shared sweets and raised slogans against the BJP leaders including Yeddyurappa and Reddy brothers.

Speaking on the occasion, KPCC secretary Ivan D'Souza said the directive to CM to step down is an acceptance of the corruption prevalent in the state under Yeddyurappa.

“This is the moment to celebrate, as the people of Karnataka are witnessing the disgraceful exit for the most corrupt CM in the history of state” he said.

“BJP has lost all the rights to continue to be in power, as most of its ministers are involved in scandals,” he added.

Former Mayor Ashraf, DK district Congres spokesperson TK Sudhir and many others were present.

BJP parliamentary board has asked Yeddyurappa to resign following his indictment by the Lokayukta over illegal mining issue.

The Lokayukta report has strongly indicted Yeddyruappa, and four prominent ministers of his cabinet including Janardana Reddy, Karunakara Reddy, Shriramulu and V Somanna and recommended their prosecution under Prevention of Corruption Act and other laws.

With 26 new COVID-19 cases, Karnataka’s tally rises to 951; death toll at 32

Bengaluru, May 13: 26 new covid-19 cases have been reported in Karnataka taking the total cases to 951. This includes 32 COVID deaths, one non-COVID death and 442 discharges.

The new cases include eleven cases from Bidar - all of whom are from the containment zone - , four from Hassan, two each from Davangere, Kalaburgi, Vijayapura and Uttara Kannada and one each from Bengaluru Urban, Ballari and Dakshina Kannada.

All the cases reported in Hassan and Vijayapura are with a travel history to Mumbai. In Bengaluru Urban, a nurse from a designated COVID hospital who was under quarantine has tested positive.

32nd death

The latest death reported was that of a 60-year-old man in Kalaburgi district. The deceased man from a containment zone was brought dead on May 11 to a designated hospital in Kalaburagi, and he has tested positive for COVID-19, it said.

Tabassum wins Mangaluru Press Club Award for service to HIV affected children

Mangaluru, Feb 19: Social worker Tabassum who has been rendering selfless service to HIV/AIDS affected children through her shelter home 'Snehadeep' at Bejai has been selected for the Annual Award of Mangaluru Press Club for the year 2019.

Tabassum, a resident of Konaje was chosen by a team of judges comprising Prof Balakrishna Gatti, Dr Vasanth Kumar Perla and Dr Nagaveni Manchi.

Mangaluru | 4 arrested in Mulki businessman murder case; hunt on for others

Mangaluru, June 6: Four persons were arrested by the Mulki police today in connection with the murder of Abdul Lateef, a 38-year-old businessman.

The arrested are: Mohammed Hasim (27), Nissar alias Riyaz (33), and Mohammed Razim (24), all residents of Mulki, and Aboobakar Siddique (27), a resident of Udupi.

The weapons and vehicles used for murder have been confiscated. Investigation is in progress to find out the motive behind the murder and the arrest of remaining accused.

Abdul Lateef, his father-in-law Muneer, latter’s son Ijaz and relative Imran were returning from Vijaya Bank at Mulki when a gang of nine miscreants waylaid their car and attacked with sharp weapons.

The gang comprised of Hakeem, Wafa, Asim, Siddique, Nissar, Bava, Farhan, Razeem and Siddiq. While four of them are arrested, police continued hunt to nab other accused.

Abdul Lateef breathed his last while being taken to hospital. Others are undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Mangaluru.
