Mangalore, August 6: Former Union Minister B Janardhana Poojary along with a number of Congress activists performed 'Urulu-Seve' and offered special prayers at the Sri Gokarnatheshwara Temple here on Saturday, seeking good health and strength to All India Congress Committee supremo Sonia Gandhi, who has undergone a surgery in USA.

Apart from the rolling ritual, the 75 year old Congress leader also performed “Panchamrthaabisheka” and “Belli Rathothsava” to appease the deity.

“We pray Lord Gokarnatheshwara to protect our leader Sonia Gandhi, who has sacrificed a lot for our country,” Mr Poojary told media persons after accomplishing a series of rituals.

“For the development of our nation, we need the services of Sonia Gandhi, who has made education as a fundamental right for children below 14 years of age”, he said adding that it is because of her efforts, people of India have been benefitted by various programmes such as Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme.

“The devotion I have towards Lord Gokarnatheshwara is the reason for my health today. People like Jaya C Suvarna and Harish Kumar have been miraculously cured of cancer due to the blessings of this god. We wish the Lord cures Sonia Gandhi too” he said.

Urging the people of all communities to pray for Sonia Gandhi, Mr Poojary requested to conduct special prayers in Churches, Mosques and Gurudwaras for her speedy recovery.

“We have complete faith in Lord Gokarnatheshwara and she will recover completely due to His blessings”, he said.

However Mr Poojary refused to comment on the political situation of the state.

MLAs U T Khader, Abahay Chandra Jain, KPCC Secretary Ivan D'Souza, Harikrishna Bantwal and Harish Kumar were also among the people who prayed for their leader.
