Give info on naxals, win gifts'

Mangalore, August 8: The DK police have pasted wall posters in the crowded public places, by making an announcement of providing attractive gifts to those who give them information about the naxals.

One such wall poster has been fixed in the KSRTC bus stand in Bejai.

The wall poster reads: “Gifts worth lakhs of rupees will be given to those who can provide information on naxals which would in turn help in arresting the naxals who are acting against the law.” The wall poster consists the photos of 19 naxals.

The department has announced of offering Rs 5 lakh prize money for providing information about top seven naxals namely B G Krishnamoorthy from Bukkadibail in Sringeri, Prabha alias Sandhya from Hosagadde in Theerthahalli, Latha Lokaiah alias Shayamala Sringeri, Kanyakumari alias Suvarna from Mudigere, Vikaram Gowda alias Srikanth from Koodlu and A S Suresh alias Mahesh from Mudigere.

While the Department will offer Rs 1 lakh prize money for providing information on Savitri, M Vanalakshmi, Bharathi, Manoj Chattisghada, Kalpana, Nirmala, Nanda Kumar, Sundari, Sirimane Nagarju, Jayanna, Ravindra, Srimathi and C M Noor Julphikar alias Sridhar.

Land and mobile phone numbers too are published in the wall poster for the public to contact and communicate messages to the police.

Along with publishing wall posters, the Anti-Naxal Squad from Ramasamudra in Karkala which is in-charge of DK, Udupi, Chikmagalur and Shimoga districts has committed an error in the wall poster by mentioning 'Mangalore district' and 'Karkala district'.

Western Range Inspector General of Police (IGP) Alok Mohan said that wall posters are published as part of 'Operation Black Thunder.'

“We had publicised such posters earlier too, but now we have expanded the activity. We are receiving good response from the people,” Alok Mohan informed.

The IGP has also assured of keeping the details of the messengers or informants a secret in view of the safety of the messengers or informants.

Mangaluru, July 31: Coronavirus related deaths in Dakshina Kannada continued to surge, with the district administration recording five more fatalities in a day, thus taking the tally to 155.

The district has recorded multiple deaths every day from July 1 to 31. A majority of the deaths are due to comorbid conditions.

Among the five deaths reported today, a 47-year-old man from Mangaluru, was admitted to private hospital on July 30, and breathed his last on the same day. He was suffering from ARDS, Type 1 respiratory failure, COPD, Type II DM, HTN and died due to cardiac arrest.

Another patient was a 75-year-old man from Bantwal, who was admitted to a private hospital on July 23, and passed away on July 30. He was suffering from acute coronary syndrome, pneumonia (ARDS), metabolic encephalopathy, acute kidney injury, systemic hypertension, and type 2 diabetes mellitus.

The third patient was a 63-year-old man from Mangaluru, who was admitted to a private hospital on July 18, and passed away on July 30. He was suffering from ARDS, septic shock, renal failure, and secondary bacterial infection.

The fourth patient was an 88-year-old woman from Davanagere, who was admitted to a private hospital on July 9, and passed away on July 30. She was suffering from septic shock, and secondary bacterial infection.

The fifth patient was a 75-year-old man from Mangaluru. He was admitted to Wenlock hospital on July 15, and passed away on July 30. He was suffering from refractory ARDS, septic shock, renal failure, acute coronary event, arrhythmias, pulmonary thromboembolism, and hemoperitoneum.

The district administration said that though the above patients contracted coronavirus, the exact cause of their deaths is being investigated by a team of experts and their report is awaited.

On the other hand, Dakshina Kannada district recorded a total of 204 fresh cases, taking the tally to 5,713. Among the 204 new cases are 75 primary contacts, 63 with influenza-like illness (ILI), and 14 with severe acute respiratory illness (SARI). As many as 52 cases are under investigation. As many as 70 patients were discharged on Friday from Wenlock as well as private hospitals.

As per the district health bulletin, a total of 40,706 samples have been tested so far and 34,993 out of them have tested negative. Among the 5,713 positive cases reported in the district, only 2,929 are currently active. As many as 2,631 persons have recovered and been discharged.

Bengaluru, May 17: At least 54 new COVID-19 positive cases have emerged since last evening, raising Karnataka's tally to 1,146, a health official said today.

Among the 1,146 cases, 611 are active and isolated in designated hospitals across the state, 497 patients got discharged and 37 died of the virus.

Of the new cases, Mandya district alone reported 22 cases, followed by 10 in Kalaburgi, 6 in Hassan, 4 in Dharward, 3 each in Kolar and Yadgir, 2 each in Dakshina Kannada and Shivamogga and 1 each in Udupi and Shivamogga.

Bengaluru, May 25: With the reporting of 93 more fresh cases of COVID-19, the total number of pandemic cases were surged to 2182 in Karnataka on Monday.

According to official sources, highest number of new cases of COVID-19 pandemic, were reported from Udupi (32), Kalaburagi (16), Yadagiri (15), Bengaluru Urban (08), Dakshina Kannada (04) in the last 24-hours in the state.

The fresh cases were also reported form Mandya, Belagavi, Ramanagara, Vijayapura, Kolara, Ballari and Dharwada district.
