A hero's welcome awaits Sadananda Gowda in Mangalore

Mangalore, August 11: The Dakshina Kannada district BJP has decided to extend a warm welcome to the new Chief Minister Sadananada Gowda on his first visit to the district.

Padmanabha Kottari, District BJP President told media persons that CM would be brought in a procession from the airport and would be felicitated at Sangha Niketan.

“The CM might visit either on Saturday or after Independence day”, said Kottari. However the exact date of CM's visit is not yet fixed.

'Cong Frustration'

Reacting to the remarks made by DK Congress President B Ramanath Rai, who described the new cabinet as 'Alibaba and his 40 associates', Mr Kottari said it shows the frustration and disappointment of a Congressman, who dreamt of failure of BJP Government.

Funds

Mr Kottari said that district had received an annual fund of Rs 6 crore. “Zilla Panchayat has received Rs 1 crore while all the five Taluk Panchayats have received Rs 1 crore each for development,” he informed.

“Rs 200 crores have been granted to MCC by, out of which 100 crores have been spent on development activities”, he said.

Dixit should resign

He also demanded that Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dixit to step down from office as she is accused of being involved in the Commonwealth Games scam.

Shailaja Bhat, President, Zilla Panchayat, Nitin Bhat, Vice-President, Zilla Panchayat were among the others present in the press conference.

Mangaluru, May 27: The Dakshina Kannada PU College Principals' Association on Wednesday appealed to the authorities to postpone the evaluation of PUC II answer scripts, as the Novel Coronavirus was still active and there was all possibility of the infection spreading.

Speaking to reporters here, Association President Umesh Karkera said, ''It is our duty to evaluate the answer scripts. But amid the fear of COVID-19 and lockdown, evaluators are not able to reach the valuation Centre to take up the work.

''The department of pre-university education has asked the Deputy Chief Examiners and the Assistant Examiners to reach the venue on May 27 and 29, respectively, to take up the evaluation work.

Bengaluru, Mar 24: Karnataka Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa, who had earlier announced that Indira canteen will supply free meals to the poor and BPL card holders, on Tuesday announced that Indira Canteens will be remain closed as there is fear of spread of the coronavirus as people assemble in large number.

On Monday, he had announced that Indira Canteens would provide food free of cost for the benefit of daily wage workers and poor people in the wake of a complete lockdown.

Asked about the alternative the government would provide, he said, "Closure of canteens is needed to avoid the rush near the canteen as it may lead to problems.

Mangaluru, Jan 9: Dakshina Kannada Deputy Commissioner has lodged a complaint with the Police alleging that his signature was forged in a holiday circular for schools and colleges in the district during National General Strike called by Trade Unions.

It may be recalled that the district administration had declared a holiday for all educational institutions on December 20 and 21 in the backdrop of the December 19 violence.

A few miscreants had forged this order and circulated it on social media stating that a holiday had been declared for schools and colleges in the district on January 8.
