Raksha 'Bandhan': Yuva Morcha activists preach 'brotherhood' to jail birds

Mangalore, August 12: Saturday being Raksha Bandhan day, inmates of the Mangalore Sub Jail too had a feel of the festival with BJP Yuva Morcha activists from Mangalore South Unit distributing the Raksha Bandhan among around 220 men and women prisoners and preaching them moral values and brotherhood.

Jail authorities made all necessity arrangements for the visiting activists to address the prisoners, who got the thread tied on their wrists.

Speaking on the occasion, Mangalore South Unit President of Yuva Morcha Raghavendra Rao called upon the prisoners to cultivate human values and lead a life of harmony and brotherhood irrespective of caste, creed or religion.

He also exhorted the prisoners to maintain peace and not to quarrel each other.

The Yuva Morcha activists also distributed fruits among the prisoners.

"Inmates were very happy toady as they celebrated the Raksha Bandhan festival and shared fruits among themselves” said a jail official.

Local leaders of the youth wing of BJP including Jeevan Prakash, Rakesh Kumar, Gangadhar, Manoj Kumar, Avinash, Naveen, Franklin Monteiro and Jamal were among those present.

Hassan, Feb 26: A 35-year-old poachers died on the spot by his fellow man accidentally, mistaking him as animal at Yedikumari Kaginahere forest areas near Sakaleshpura in the district early hours Tuesday, police sources said.

The deceased has been identified as Harish.

The incident happened when ten poachers went hunting for wild animals in the Yedikumari Kaginahare forest areas.

Bengaluru, Mar 13: Karnataka Health Department is planning to set up a separate hospital for COVID-19 so that the affected can be kept in quarantine at one place.

Presently, it is in the process of setting up separate isolation wards for COVID-19 cases at eight Bengaluru hospitals.

Minister for Medical Education K Sudhakar said on Friday that he has already discussed the idea of a separate facility for COVID-19 cases, so that those isolated, can be kept at a single location to contain the spread of the virus.

New Delhi, May 1: The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) on Friday issued an order under the Disaster Management Act, 2005 to further extend the lockdown for a further period of two weeks beyond May 4.

The current lockdown period is scheduled to end on May 3.

"After a comprehensive review and in view of the lockdown measures having led to significant gains, the COVID-19 situation in the country, Ministry of Home Affairs issued an order under the Disaster Management Act, 2005, today, to further extend the lockdown for a further period of two weeks beyond May 4, 2020," read the order of the Home Ministry.

In red zones and outside containment zones, certain activities including plying of cycle rickshaws and auto-rickshaws, taxis and cab aggregators, intra-district and inter-district plying of buses and barber shops, spas and salons will be prohibited in addition to those prohibited throughout India.

A limited number of activities will remain prohibited across the country, irrespective of the zone, including travel by air, rail, metro and inter-state movement by road, running of schools, colleges, and other educational and training/coaching institutions, the order said.

This came after Prime Minister Narendra Modi's meeting with chief ministers of several states last month where some of them suggested extension of lockdown.
