Palemar promises development in I-Day address

Mangalore, August 15: At least 1.5 crore people across the state have been benefited by the several pro-people schemes implemented by the BJP led State government in the last three years, said Krishna J Palemar, District in Charge Minister.

He was delivering the 65th Independence Day message after hoisting the tricolour flag at the Nehru Maidan here on Monday morning.

He said, of the Rs 100 crore special grant sanctioned by the Ex-Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa, 17 concrete roads will be constructed in the city. As many as 210 asphalt and inter-lock roads will also be constructed, he said.

He announced that out of the Rs 362.88 lakh sanctioned under 13th Finance Commission, drinking water supply, drainage system and street lights will be developed. He said that an amount of Rs 169.48 lakh has been earmarked for the development of roads under this grant.

He said an action plan of Rs 38.02 crore which was sanctioned for local civic bodies under SFC grant would be sent to government for the approval.

In order to solve the housing problem in the District under Basava Vasathi Yojna, he said, 9,648 beneficiaries were identified and shelter for 7,214 beneficiaries in urban area and 50, 559 in rural area have been provided at the cost of Rs.1655.45 lakhs.

Nearly 2,000 people flocked to the Nehru Maidan as the Minister unfurled the National Flag. Minister also inspected the guard of honour on a vehicle.

The Independence Day parade of 17 teams, led by Yashoda Shibarooru, District Probationary DySP, including KSRP, NCC (Airwing and Naval-Junior/Senior), District Armed Reserve (DAR) police, Civil, Traffic, Coast Guards, Home Guards, Scouts, Guides, Bharat Seva Dal, Road Safety Patrol and student's band enthralled the gathering.

Road Safety Patrol team of St Theresa School and NCC Air Wing have got first and second prizes respectively for the parade.

This year's Independence Day also witnessed a Mini Airshow by Rathnakara Nayak of Karkala, Airo India Model Society rising India to the high in the skies amid gaiety and patriotic fervor of gathered.

Felicitation

On the occasion three special children Dhanya Rao, Royston Pinto and Anil Mendonsa who have won medals in the recently held Special Olympics in Athens, were given a warm felicitation.

Deputy Commissioner Dr N S Channapa Gowda, IGP Alok Mohan, City Police Commissioner Seemanth Kumar Singh, SP Labhu Ram, Mayor Praveen and others were present.

Shivamogga, May 12: Roopa Praveen Rao, an expectant mother and a nurse at a hospital in Shivamogga's Karnataka, has chosen to continue to serve the patients amid the ongoing COVID-19 crisis.

Rao who hails from Gajanuru village is nine months pregnant and works at Jayachamarajendra Government Hospital as a nurse.

She travels every day to Thirthahalli taluk to attend to the patients at the hospital.

"The taluk hospital is surrounded by many villages, people need our service. My seniors had asked me to take leave but I want to serve people. I work six hours a day," she told news agency.

She added that Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa too called her up and appreciated her dedication and suggested that she should take rest.

Rao is one of the many frontline COVID-19 warriors who have been risking their lives to ensure that everyone stays safe as the country fights the coronavirus.

Mangaluru, May 31: A yellow alert has been sounded in eight districts of Karnataka, amidst the Indian Meteorological Department’s (IMD) prediction that the low pressure area formed over Arabian Sea and Lakshadweep may to intensify further into a cyclonic storm.

The yellow has been sounded in Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, Uttara Kannada, Chikkamagaluru, Kodagu, Hassan, Shivamogga and Chamarajanagara till June 1.

Moderate to heavy rain is expected to lash parts of coastal Karnataka today and tomorrow. 

The IMD has assessed that the situation is favourable for the onset of southwest monsoon. In view of the enhanced cloud cover and the deepening of southwesterly winds up to mid tropospheric levels, the southwest monsoon advanced further.

The IMD has also advised fishermen to avoid fishing in west coast of India from May 31 to June 4.

Bengaluru, Aug 7: Action will be taken against private hospitals that were violating government norms and charging exorbitant fees charges for the treatment of Covid-19 patients and suspects, said Water Resources Minister Ramesh Jarkiholi.

The government has taken action against private hospitals in Bengaluru and the same parameters would be adopted other cities, he said speaking to media persons in Belagavi on Friday.

Jarkiholi said that the government had noticed that patients were levied exorbitant charges for Covid-19 treatment. People too have complaints regarding the huge bills by these private hospitals and have demanded action.

“We are not under the obligation of any private hospital and stringent action will be taken against all erring and violating government tariffs. They will have to treat patients and follow the tariffs fixed,” he stated.

Belagavi Institute of Medical Sciences District Hospital had been directed to install CCTV cameras in Covid-19 wards and install monitors at reception to facilitate monitoring of treatment and condition of the wards. BIMS management was taken to task for not following the directive and have been given a deadline to install CCTV cameras, Jarkiholi informed.
